We are now seeking an exceptional Head of Taxation – Australia to lead our tax function, shape tax strategy, and influence decision‑making across a complex, dynamic business that spans multiple industries and regions. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract role covering a period of parental leave.

 

Reporting to the Senior Director, Tax, Compliance & Reporting (North America & Australia), this role is responsible for delivering the full suite of tax compliance, tax accounting, and advisory services across Nutrien’s Australian operations, with oversight extending to New Zealand.

 

You’ll be a trusted strategic partner to senior leaders globally and locally — providing insights on tax legislation, shaping tax planning strategies, and ensuring governance across all tax‑related activities. This role also plays a key part in global tax transformation, systems improvement, and continuous process enhancement within Nutrien’s global Tax Centre of Excellence.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee all Australian and New Zealand tax compliance, reporting, accounting and forecasting activities.
  • Provide strategic tax advisory services, including for mergers, acquisitions, and broader business initiatives.
  • Lead a high‑performing team of five — coaching, developing and empowering people to succeed.
  • Communicate tax updates, risks and opportunities to Australian and global leadership.
  • Lead federal and local tax audits and manage relationships with external advisors, auditors, and government bodies.
  • Drive process improvement, automation and tax technology initiatives across the Tax CoE.
  • Build and maintain strong internal partnerships with finance, legal, accounting and other key teams.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • Degree in Commerce, Accounting and/or Law, with postgraduate qualifications in Tax, Accounting or Law (LLM or Master of Tax highly regarded).
  • CA/CPA qualified with 8+ years’ tax experience in a global organisation or leading consulting firm.
  • Deep knowledge of Australian tax legislation, policy and IFRS (IAS 12) including purchase accounting.
  • Experience with SAP, PeopleSoft, OneSource and/or Longview (advantageous).
  • Strong business acumen, analytical capability, and exceptional technical tax expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders across a complex organisation.
  • Inspirational leadership style with a track record of developing high‑performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and time‑management skills.
