Reporting to the Sr Manager, Technical Development, the Technical Development Representative (TDR) plays an important role in the testing and development of crop input products prior to their commercialization and then supporting them in our retail distribution network through commercialization. This position is responsible for precommercial product development for Loveland Products (LPI) as well as providing technical services / support to Nutrien Ag Solutions Retail Divisions in the assigned geography.  The TDR will focus on facilitating and analyzing pre-commercial applied field research, providing technical leadership on projects, and developing and transferring knowledge to the sales organization to ensure products are properly characterized, positioned and used by growers. Provide technical project leadership with a primary focus on LPI innovation, while collaborating with marketing portfolio managers and regulatory managers.

 

What You'll Do:

 

  • Lead precommercial protocol development and experimental design in alignment with specific LPI business objectives
  • Establish and maintain an applied field research program with contract researchers, universities and on-farm with our local retail employees
  • Validate, analyze, and summarize field research data with applied statistical analysis and professional data summaries
  • Convert data into marketing content, defining the placement, positioning, performance, and value of new products to our customers
  • Active technical leadership and guidance that supports scientifically sound business-based product advancement decisions
  • Collaborate with LPI sales managers and retail crop consultants for knowledge transfer and training
  • Monitor and assess 3rd party technologies that we might explore to fill portfolio gaps
  • Distribute knowledge and ensure its availability for current and future users
  • Lead and perform work the Nutrien Way – engaging in corporate, policies, programs and practices, including SH&E regulations and standards, to bring our Culture of Care to life
  • Perform other related duties, as required

What You'll Bring:

 

  • M.S. degree (required) or Ph.D. (preferred) in agronomy, soil science, crop science, horticulture, plant pathology, entomology, weed science or related discipline
  • Experience designing, conducting, evaluating and analyzing agricultural field research
  • Demonstrated applied field research, technical education, and data management skills
  • Strong computer skills (basic knowledge or ability to learn JMP, ARM, Excel, PPT, etc.)
  • Clear & effective decision making, with emphasis on objective, data-driven conclusions  
  • Knowledge of crop inputs and farming practices in the US Corn-Belt and Eastern US
  • Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding communication capabilities, and the ability to influence others by translating technical information into sales enablement
  • Ability to work effectively with other teams, but also highly self-motivated and independent (will work from your own home office and set your own schedule)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management, organization of information, and task prioritization skills
  • The highest ethical standards and sense of accountability
  • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) certification is desired, but not required
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight (estimated to be up to 50% during busy seasons) with company vehicle provided. Expense account will also be provided
