Job Description:
This position reports to the Surface Capital Portfolio Manager. All interested & qualified internal applicants are encouraged to apply and will be considered at the appropriate job level (K,L) given their respective education, experience, and qualifications.
What You'll Do:
- Provide engineering support through concept development, feasibility, and detailed engineering phases to ensure project scope complies with site standards and specifications
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define project objectives and evaluate options, clearly articulating technical benefits, risks, and constraints
- Liaise with Technical Services, Maintenance Engineering, OEMs, and engineering consultants to develop safe, value-focused capital project solutions
- Prepare and manage engineering deliverables for preliminary engineering and options analysis, including equipment data, engineering documents, stage gate packages, and technical meeting records
- Apply site equipment, material, and installation specifications and perform technical reviews of IFR and IFC packages for equipment procurement and installation
- Provide on‑site engineering support during construction, installation, commissioning, and closeout of capital projects
- Resolve field technical queries (RFIs), design clarifications, and constructability issues in coordination with the Capital Projects team
- Verify equipment and system installations meet design intent, applicable codes, and site standards
- Support long-range capital planning through project scoping, technical evaluation, and cost estimating
- Provide technical input and direction for procurement activities, including development and review of RFQ/RFP packages and technical bid evaluations
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical
- Registered or be eligible for registration with APEGS as a Professional Engineer
- 4+ years of industrial mechanical engineering experience on stationary and rotating equipment
- Working knowledge in pressure vessel and piping codes (ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME Section VIII Div 1 & 2, ASME PCC-1, ASME PCC-2), and NDT inspection techniques is considered an asset
- Working knowledge of relevant API standards such as API 571, API 510, API 570, API 653, and API 650 is considered an asset.
- Experience using or interpreting outputs from piping design software packages such as CAESAR is considered an asset
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communication, planning & problem-solving skills
- Multitasking and urgency skills: ability to prioritize technical needs of various projects
