Job Description:
Reporting to the Mining Equipment Category Manager, the Category Specialist is responsible for developing and managing strong relationships between Suppliers and Nutrien Stakeholders across the organization. This role supports the Mining Equipment Category with cross-functional collaboration, strategic analysis, and execution of initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, and business performance.
What You'll Do:
Business Support & Collaboration
- Support site operations to ensure safe and reliable production
- Work cross-functionally to deliver thoughtful analysis and strategic decision support, incorporating probabilistic scenarios and value chain impacts
- Develop, prioritize, and track strategies and initiatives; facilitate meetings to provide updates to cross-functional teams
- Lead communication, rollout, and adoption of new contracts and supplier relationships across sites
Data & Market Analysis
- Extract, analyze, and interpret historical spend data using SAP, Oracle, and SAP Hana
- Build spend and forecast profiles for Mining Equipment sub-categories, including:
- Mechanical cutting equipment, parts, and service
- Custom metal fabrication, repairs, and rebuilds
- Conveyor systems and components
- Underground mobile equipment
- Ground support equipment
- Hoist, shaft, and dragline equipment
- Mining bits and ventilation
- Perform market research and supplier due diligence, including analysis of Indigenous-owned goods and services, supporting Nutrien’s Indigenous Supply Chain Goals
Sourcing & Contracting
- Develop, analyze, negotiate, and award RFx packages in coordination with internal stakeholders and suppliers
- Lead supplier, legal, and internal stakeholder meetings to negotiate master agreements aligned with business priorities
- Develop and manage fixed-price agreements for materials and services
- Monitor and manage assigned contracts to ensure performance and compliance
- Follow Nutrien procurement policies, procedures, and processes
Leadership & Project Management
- Manage multiple concurrent projects of varying complexity, delivering on deadlines
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members
- Travel nationally and internationally up to 25% of the time

Technical Competencies
- High technical knowledge of mining equipment, parts, and suppliers
- Strong proficiency in commercial and legal contract concepts
- Deep experience with:
- Enterprise asset management systems (SAP / Oracle)
- Spend management tools (Ariba)
- Data analytics tools (SAP Hana)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Power Query, Power BI, and PowerPoint
Education & Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain management, project management, engineering, or a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience in Indigenous community or business development (asset)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
