What You'll Do:
Â
Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, the Process Engineer provides direct engineering and technical leadership to the production units. The Process Engineer will monitor and evaluate plant performance, assist with the development of projects, and evaluate process opportunities for improved productivity, reliability, and efficiency.

The Process Engineer is responsible for identifying, investigating, and finding solutions to process opportunities for improved productivity, reliability, environmental and safety performance.

What you will do:

- Promote and actively participate in site safety processes and Environmental Stewardship activities.
- Work with area team members and in partnership with operations to accomplish plant objectives in the areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, Production, Efficiency, Cost Reduction and Innovation
- Perform and initiate engineering and technical studies to troubleshoot known plant problems, predict impending problems, and optimize plant operations in the above priority areas.
- Perform and contribute to thorough process reviews such as Hazard and Operability Studies (Hazops) and "What If' analyses on current operations and proposed changes to plant equipment, processes, and systems via the plant Process Safety Management of Change (MOC) process, lead pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR)
- Provide Process Engineering support to the business and project managers on:
- Brownfield expansion strategy & studies
- End-of-life equipment replacement (upgrades and improvements)
- Work with corporate engineering on design improvements
- Develop alternatives on capital projects and collaborate to pick the best options
- Work closely with reliability and maintenance to prioritize projects to eliminate top items on threats list
- Closely monitor real-time and historical plant data from log sheets, data historian, lab analysis, walkthrough, etc. to detect abnormalities and to optimize plant operations. (includes compressor/ turbine efficiency, exchangers performance, catalyst, pressure drop surveys, etc)
- Interact with operators and shift supervisors to learn and share knowledge of the plant operations and to meld "reality' with "theoretical".
- Promote and contribute to the successful implementation of projects by providing accurate, timely, and thorough design input/design review by facilitating close coordination and communications with area personnel, internal stakeholders, and external contractors.
- Identify and facilitate implementation of production, reliability, efficiency, and cost improvement opportunities.
- Research and evaluate industry technology advancements, other plant experiences, and innovative ideas.
- Develop and maintain networks with other Nitrogen industry plants.
- Provide support to operating teams by troubleshooting issues during process upsets, and participate in investigations of plant production issues
- Ensure engineering standards are maintained in areas of responsibility (e.g. Ammonia, Urea, Utilities)
- Perform and verify process modeling, heat and material balances, equipment sizing calculations, and hydraulic calculations
What You'll Bring:
Â
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering (ABET accredited university preferred)
- Experience in a chemical production facility (Ammonia, Urea, Methanol, H2, Ethylene preferred)
- 3 – 7 years of experience for Engineer, Process
- Sound knowledge of RAGAGEP (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practice)
- Commitment to Safety
- Self-motivation, Organization, and Time Management Skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Proven experience in planning, problem-solving, and organization
- Knowledge of Process Simulations (Aspen Hysys, Unisim), Exchanger Design Software (EDR or HTR), and Hydraulic Modeling Software
- Knowledge of process design, technical specifications, and machinery
