Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Manager, Compliance & Reporting, Canada to support our Senior Manager, Canadian Tax in managing our Canadian tax compliance and reporting. This role is responsible for the preparation of annual tax filings, monthly, quarterly and annual tax provisions, and budgets and forecasts. In addition, the role will collaborate with the Tax Controversy and Credits, Transfer Pricing, U.S., International Tax / Planning, and Tax Technology teams, as well as internal stakeholders (Finance, Treasury, Legal, and Operations) and external consultants.

What You'll Do:

This is a temporary position for a 12-month term. 

 

  • Prepare and/or review Canadian income tax filings, including but not limited to: T2 Corporation Income Tax Return, T3 Trust Income Tax and Information Return, T5013 Partnership Information Return, Form T106, T5 Statement of Investment Income, Potash Production Tax (PPT) Return, and other relevant provincial tax filings.
  • Prepare and/or review the monthly, quarterly and annual tax provisions, and support the quarterly budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Prepare and/or review all federal and provincial tax payments.
  • Research and document technical tax matters to support the tax filing positions.
  • Identify process automation opportunities and implement technology solutions, where required. Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve and streamline workflow.  
  • Assist the Tax Controversy and Credit team with federal and provincial tax audits (including preparation of the draft responses, reviewing notices of assessments and reassessments and investigating discrepancies) and annual Scientific Research & Experimental Development claims (including preparation of supporting workpapers).
  • Assist the Transfer Pricing team with preparing intercompany adjustments and calculations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on Canadian tax issues, including proposed legislation, and accounting standards.
  • Monitor project timelines and deadlines.
  • Lead and supervise staff.
  • Comply with all Company standards, policies and procedures pertaining to appropriate conduct for employees, including the Statement of Core Values and Code of Business Conduct; the Respect in the Workplace Policy; Safety, Health and Environment Policies; and any other applicable standards, policies and procedures as implemented and/or revised by the Company or by legislation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification required, or Master’s in Taxation preferred.
  • Completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax program.
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years experience in Canadian corporate income tax (Big Four or multinational in-house experience preferred).
  • Experience with Taxprep, Longview, SAP, and Oracle considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects, hit milestones, effectively work with cross functional teams, and deliver on deadlines all while being organized.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment, adapting to changes in schedule and direction as needed.
