The Director, HR Business Partner, reporting to the Vice President, HRBP & Employee and Labour Relations is responsible for leading an HRBP team supporting Corporate Business Units. This leadership position supports the enablement of the business strategy through the development and implementation of leading-edge human capital strategies and programs. The role is accountable for establishing the performance expectations and measurements to ensure we are transforming the current operating model in support of providing best-in-class people initiatives. This role integrates across the Corporate functions and organizational hierarchy to establish a management operating system to attract, retain, and develop our talent and deploy an employee experience that makes Nutrien an employer of choice.

This strategic Director provides leadership across all areas of HR and the business. Â This position will partner closely with the COE to ensure effective program designs for the Corporate business units. This role partners closely with the HRBP leadership team to provide leadership to the entire function. Â This will include partnering closely with Total Rewards on compensation and benefit programs, working with Talent Attraction to attract top talent, and collaborating with Talent Development on succession and career development programs and the HRSC to ensure service excellence. This role is accountable for fostering an environment that is psychologically safe where everyone is seen, heard, and feels like they belong. Â

This leader’s focus will be enabling the business strategy. The successful incumbent must be a process-focused global HR leader, with a proven track record in designing and implementing game-changing people programs for sustainable business growth across multiple geographies. This role requires a combination of strong strategic and analytical orientation, dynamic leadership capability, deep HR knowledge, excellent communication skills, change management expertise, and the proven ability to collaborate and influence across all levels of the organization.  Given the changing environment, this role is instrumental in working with the business to coordinate and oversee large-scale organizational transformation while designing and implementing programs and practices to support Nutrien’s business strategy. Â

What You'll Do:
Â
- Provide direct leadership to a team of HRBP’s with a strong focus on career development, performance management, and employee engagement
- Support a growing global business unit of over 1000 professional and executive-level employees
- Manage a high-performance culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback, and developing employees for wider roles and responsibilities to foster professional growth and development
- Assist with the integration and change processes as the company meets the challenges of growth and the need to scale including M&A activity
- As a key member of the HR Business Partner leadership team, you will serve as an expert on all things people, offering coaching and guidance to Sr. Leaders and assist to execute on the business strategy
- Participate in recruitment of senior leadership, sit on interview panels, providing critical feedback and thoughtful analysis to select top talent
- Responsible for robust succession planning with senior leadership to ensure we are proactively managing the employee lifecycle by prudently managing performance and identifying and developing successors
- Partner with COE and leadership to create and execute on effective people strategies, programs, and initiatives
- Collaborate with Total Rewards to drive consistent and effective compensation and benefits programs throughout the Corporate and Commercial business units
- Work with leaders to anticipate, request, and design the scope of future human capital requirements based on business, industry, and market conditions
- Provide direction and input to COE to ensure the design and deployment of HR initiatives meet the needs of the Corporate business unit and work closely with leaders to implement them accordingly
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of HR initiatives, strategy, and policies
- Expand HR strategies to have more of a global focus
- Drive talent attraction and retention by working closely with COE and leadership to create positive change and improve culture
- Utilizing change management philosophy, work with client group leaders to design future state changes (people, process, and structure), prepare change plans, and engage with leaders to implement
- Apply critical thinking and thought leadership to diagnose complex performance issues and work with business leaders to prepare solutions and support implementation
- Understand the business units and their challenges to help address the organization and people needs including organizational structures, organizational effectiveness, and team and individual performance
- Work with client groups to champion the enterprise culture of continuous improvement by ensuring the appropriate talent structure, engagement model, performance management and recognition systems are in place
- Foster a culture of care, where employee safety and happiness is top priority
- Create a positive team dynamic by rewarding and recognizing team members and organizing team building activities

What You'll Bring:
Â
- 15 years of experience in progressively more senior leadership roles in numerous HR areas (i.e., Employee Relations, Total Rewards, Talent Management, Organizational Effectiveness) with strong global business acumen
- 10 years leadership career experience assessing, attracting, and retaining high-performing HR Business Partner teams
- Degree in Business, Human Resources, or applicable discipline
- CPHR or SHRM designation preferred
- High-performing leader, who brings a positive approach to each day, and fosters a culture of care
- Proven success in leading strategic initiatives to develop future state HR blueprints and service delivery models designed to increase efficiency
- Strong business and financial acumen with management and stewardship of key financial metrics, budget, and forecasting processes
- Proven success interpreting an organization's internal and external business environment to plan, direct, and control activities to continually reflect trends, market fluctuations, and changes in business best practices and technology
- Highly developed leadership and coaching skills with the ability to establish trust at all levels
- Demonstrated relationship management capability with Senior Leaders both internal and external to the organization
- Demonstrated leadership and success in building and celebrating a diverse and inclusive workplace
- Success leading and developing others in a matrixed organization; leveraging HR synergies and strengthening HR programs & processes that span across the organization
- Proven expertise in leading significant organizational transformation initiatives with superior change management leadership skills
- Experience in implementing and leveraging people analytics tools allowing for data-driven decision-making
- Expertise in managing high-risk and complex employee relations situations with the ability to make recommendations to legal and execute independently to mitigate risk
- Creative problem solver who can balance the needs of the business with the needs of people
