The Director, Process Safety Management (PSM) is responsible for the establishment and execution of Nutrien’s Nitrogen, Phosphate, and T&D Terminal’s PSM and risk mitigation programs based on US OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 PSM Standard as well as providing technical partnerships, consulting assistance, direction, and engineering services. Reporting directly into this position are three Senior PSM Engineers and a Senior Process Safety Specialist. Indirectly reporting into this position are all the Process Safety Engineers, Coordinators, and Analysts at the Nitrogen, Phosphate, and terminal sites.

 

What you will do:

  • Model our core value of safety by leading and enabling a culture in which you and your team are actively contributing to a safe work environment.
  • Owns, leads and is accountable for the development, implementation and execution of the Nitrogen, Phosphate, and terminals Process Safety program with the goal of creating a best-in-class PSM organization.
  • Build strong partnerships and working relationships with Nitrogen and Phosphate’s plant managers and leaders while influencing positive and aligned outcomes.
  • Responsible for the quantification and analysis of all Nitrogen and Phosphate PSM risks while ensuring a prioritized risk management approach to the solutions.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities to improve Process Safety Management performance in all Nutrien units / facilities and providing and technical consulting assistance as required.
  • Responsible for the development, communication, and execution of the Nutrien’s annual Process Safety Engineering and Process Safety Management goals and long-term strategy.
  • Owns and is responsible for the development, annual review, and communication of Process Safety Management standards within the Wholesale Manufacturing Management System.
  • Responsible for and ensures all Nutrien’s Process Safety Engineers align on standards and practices throughout the Nutrien network.
  • Responsible for providing support (resources) for process safety assessment and audit work.
  • Other duties as required.

 

What you will bring:

  • Required Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering minimum.
    • Minimum of 15-years’ experience in production or process engineering within a PSM covered manufacturing plant environment.
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
    • Master’s degree in Engineering.
    • CCPS Certified Process Safety Professional.
    • 5 – 10 years process plant related experience.
  • Required Skills:
    • Knowledge (theoretical or practical understanding of a subject):
      • Expert level of knowledge and skills in Process Safety Engineering methodologies, practices, systems, and tools, including:
      • US OSHA PSM standard 29 CFR 1910.119. and applicable Canadian regulations is the area of Process Safety Management.
      • Environmental, Health and Safety – programs and regulations.
    • Skills (proficiencies developed through training or experience):
      • Directing the overall PSM program and coordinating the PSM supporting activities by Nitrogen and Phosphate EH&S, Engineering, Technical, and Capital Services and Manufacturing sites.
      • Experience and knowledge in project development, execution, scheduling, and monitoring.
      • Experience with Contractor safety management.
      • Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem solving, and leadership / facilitation skills.
      • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PHA Pro; and SAP.
    • Abilities (qualities of being able to do something):
      • Proven track record in a senior leadership role with demonstrated skills in managing, leading, and influencing peers and others.
      • Self- motivated, highly organized and demonstrated ability to work under pressure with a large and varied workload with changing priorities.
      • Experience in Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and keep group functioning in an effective, efficient manner to maximize work output.
      • Strong analytical and proven problem-solving & decision-making skills.
