This position will report directly to the Mill Superintendent.

 

The Mill Process & Production Engineer does not have any direct reports.

 

The Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing the process control in the Mill Area. While making sure that neither safety nor the environment is compromised, the incumbent ensures that the products manufactured in the Mill area are within the required chemical specifications for in-plant consumption and are produced at the lowest possible cost. Maintenance problems are addressed either through modifications and the work order system or by requesting capital funds for improvements. Employee training must be conducted to communicate changes in operating parameters as well as deal with newly installed equipment.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Ensure production tonnage meets or exceeds plan.
  • Maintain the required quality specifications of phosphate concentrate.
  • Keep costs low by improving the reliability of the operating equipment and optimizing the process.
  • Request and apply capital funds to improve the flotation process.
  • Track and maintain consumption of various reagents at the optimum dosages necessary to achieve recovery targets and control costs.
  • Participate in crew meetings monthly to improve safety and environmental awareness.
  • Troubleshoot operational delays, reduce bottlenecks, and identify mechanical problems.
  • Monitor and document all process upset conditions and assist in or lead efforts to address root causes.
  • Ensure that all testing and monitoring for environmental compliance are completed according to schedule
  • Responsible for tracking the performance of unit processes such as sizing, grinding, clay removal, and flotation.
  • Coordinate efforts through the use of both internal and external resources to provide relevant training for operators.
  • Coordinate daily production and process trials with other departments.
  • Track performance and initiate process modifications, as necessary.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for conducting employee training to communicate changes in operating parameters, as well as dealing with newly installed equipment.
  • In addition, on occasion, the incumbent will conduct presentations and meetings within the plant and with outside agencies.

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required. While a degree in Mining, Metallurgical Engineering, or Mineral Processing is preferred, other engineering disciplines may be acceptable.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of industrial experience in the mining industry is preferred.
  • Three to five years of process/production engineering experience is required.
  • Seminars, meetings, and continuing education in the field of expertise are required to maintain an up-to-date working knowledge.
  • Must pass a pre-employment exam and drug screening.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • A strong background in product conveying, mineral processing, chemistry, materials handling, and mixing of raw materials for the float and clay process is highly beneficial.  
  • Prior practical experience within the mining or mineral processing industries, is desirable.
  • Prior supervisory experience and six sigma training are desired.
