Reports to: Supervisor, Process Engineering
Position Overview:
The Technical Services Process Development Engineer is responsible for the research, development, design, application, and testing of a wide range of machinery and process systems. This role involves executing project plans through all phases: design, installation, testing, and implementation. The position requires managing project resources and activities, with an emphasis on performance, safety, budget, and compliance. The engineer also provides technical support for quality management in chemical processes and final products.
Responsibilities:
- Lead initiatives to research or develop new systems, products, or processes for assigned chemical and process engineering projects, covering topics such as quality, statistics, and environment
- Develop product formulations and processes for new products or optimize existing products. Coordinate and execute bench-top, pilot, scale-up, and verification batches
- Manage projects, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to move projects from concept to commercialization
- Prepare documentation to ensure consistent product manufacturing, including batch records, production instructions, validation, and stability protocols
- Work with Quality Assurance to ensure all product documentation supports commercial manufacture, such as raw material specifications, product specifications, Certificates of Analysis, cleaning requirements, and standard operating procedure (SOP) validations
- Conduct research to improve or develop manufacturing processes and develop safety protocols for handling chemicals
- Test and monitor process performance during manufacturing and troubleshoot manufacturing process issues
- Evaluate equipment and processes for compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and support quality management systems at the site
- Partner with clients, sales teams, and operations staff to address and resolve product quality concerns
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field is required
- 1-2 years professional experience preferred; prior internship or co-op experience is an asset
- Demonstrated technical and analytical skills, with the ability to apply engineering knowledge to real-world challenges
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools used in the chemical manufacturing industry
- Effective communicator with strong teamwork skills
- Detail-oriented with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving technologies and industry standards
