This position reports directly to the General Manager, Nutrien-Aurora, NC.

The Mine Manager is responsible for the planning, budgeting, organizational management, and execution of activities involved with mining and beneficiating phosphate ore into upgraded products for sale and or captive use; also responsible for reclaiming previously mined areas using the gangue created from processing. Overseeing all activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance to produce quality phosphate rock at the lowest cost. 

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Safety Compliance:
    • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all operations comply with health, safety, and environment regulations.
  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Lead the planning and execution of phosphate mining improvement projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, to the required standards and in alignment with Nutrien and Aurora overall goals.
    • Focus on Life of Mine (LOM) extension strategies to ensure long-term operational success. Ensure LOM through proactive permitting and collaboration with GIA, Corporate Environmental, and other state and local authorities.
  • Operational Management:
    • Oversee daily phosphate mining operations, including land acquisition, exploration, reclamation, extraction, processing, and material handling of phosphate concentrate. 
    • Ensure the optimization of resources, including workforce, equipment, and technology, to maximize productivity and efficiency.
    • Perform workplace examinations for the active mining and dump areas (high walls, berms, tailings cells, etc.) as well as the tailings system, and other operating areas to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Environmental Stewardship:
    • Develop and implement sustainable mining practices that minimize environmental impact.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote initiatives that enhance environmental conversations.
  • Financial Oversight:
    • Provide guidance and support for development, approval, and execution of the mining and mill operations budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
    • Review, approve, and administer all proposals for Capital funds in the Mine/Mill areas.
    • Set targets and initiatives for reducing Rock Cost per ton to maintain competitiveness.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies and industry partners.
    • Responsible for advising leadership of all problems or potential problems that may impact this mine operation to produce in a safe, timely, efficient manner including, but not limited to personnel, equipment, transportation, quality, and raw materials.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
    • Ensure effective communication and coordination across all departments involved in the mining operation.
    • Demonstrate the ability to influence and change decisions if they are not in line with best practices, in terms of planning or execution.

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably in Mining or Metallurgical discipline.
  • 10 years of post-college experience, showing a proven record of upward career growth.
  • 5 years of related experience in the fields of Mining or Mineral Processing.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial safety practices and environmental regulations.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Understanding of the mining and chemical process at the Phosphate Operations to prioritize spending of Sustaining Capital and Maintenance funds.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in human relations skills including improvement of work practices, employee motivation, and salary administration.
  • Internal Candidates should have a letter of recommendation from direct leader and be successful succession candidate.
