What You'll Do:

  • Provide technical leadership in researching and developing systems, products, and processes across chemical, quality, statistical, and environmental areas
  • Lead development of new formulations and optimize existing products, ensuring robust performance from bench-top through pilot and manufacturing scale-up
  • Supervise and guide Process Development Technicians, offering technical direction and support
  • Manage assigned projects from concept through commercialization, maintaining strong communication with cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate and execute bench, pilot, and manufacturing verification batches with speed, accuracy, and consistency
  • Monitor departmental budgets and spending, providing updates and ensuring cost-effective operations
  • Oversee and guide consultants or contractors supporting specialized project needs
  • Apply scientific and engineering principles to product development, processing, manufacturing technology, quality control, and bulk transportation
  • Conduct research to develop new or improved manufacturing processes and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Troubleshoot chemical manufacturing processes and support plant operations to ensure consistent product quality and process reliability
  • Conduct tests and monitor process performance throughout production
  • Develop and implement safety procedures for handling hazardous chemicals
  • Assist in designing and planning equipment layouts to support efficient and safe operations
  • Evaluate equipment and processes for compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all development projects
  • Prepare technical documentation including raw material and bulk specifications, SOPs, batch records, technology transfer documents, validation protocols, and stability studies
  • Ensure all product documentation meets Quality Assurance requirements for commercial manufacturing, including raw material specs, guaranteed product specifications, Certificates of Analysis, equipment cleaning requirements, and method validations
  • Support and help maintain the site Quality Management System
  • Work with customers, Sales teams, and plant personnel to identify, investigate, and resolve product quality concerns

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or advanced degree in Physical Science is required, advanced degree is preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in chemical processing
  • The ability to supervise through motivation and development of people is an important trait
  • A thorough knowledge of plant safety, environmental and personnel policies is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in product/process development, laboratory techniques, pilot plant equipment operations and identification of opportunities for improvements
  • Excellent project, problem solving and time management skills
  • Excellent research knowledge and skills with the ability to statistically analyze data
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience/knowledge in the phosphate chemical manufacturing business is preferred
