Reporting to the Senior Process Engineering Supervisor, the Senior Process Control Engineer will work collaboratively with production and technical personnel, and is responsible for maintenance, support, development, and improvement of basic and advanced process control, safety instrumented system, HMI systems, and historian applications to progress the operational, EHS, and Process Safety performance of  Nutrien's Borger Nitrogen Operations.  Decisions made by the Senior Process Control Engineer can have immediate implications to the safe operation of the process unit(s), and consequently, on production and environmental performance.

 

What you will do:

  • Assignment of work is based on business priorities, individual’s skills/expertise, and available skill development opportunities.
  • Interface with Operations, Technical, Maintenance and Project personnel to seek and implement improvement opportunities, including their justification, benefit analysis, documentation, development and presentation to gain project/MOC approval.
  • Maintains the control database, regulatory, supervisory and advanced applications, and the HMI to ensure operation and integrity of the control and information applications.
  • Provides technical assistance and process control expertise, including advanced problem-solving techniques, for the analysis and investigation of abnormal operating situations and day-to-day application performance issues, and for their subsequent correction.
  • Provides technical assistance and process control expertise for design and implementation of DCS and control configurations of capital projects and MOC’s.
  • Provides user training and assistance to Operators, Maintenance and Technical personnel to ensure safe and competent use of the DCS and Information systems.
  • Owner of SIS lifecycle, critical defeat program, and alarm rationalization management program.
  • Assists with engineering review and authentication of process control applications developed by others and mentoring to improve the expertise of process control engineer’s.

 

What you will bring:

  • BSc. or M.Sc. Degree in Chemical Engineering with specialization in Process Control
  • Registered, or immediately eligible to be, a Professional Engineer
  • 6-10 years’ experience with advanced/basic process control, safety instrumented systems, and historian applications in chemical processing industry
  • Sound technical expertise in process engineering, process dynamics/modeling, and regulatory, supervisory and advanced model-based process control
  • Familiarity with network administration, domain controllers, DCS programming, Honeywell, Triconex, Extrel mass spectrometer, Top Tech, SKF and Bentley Nevada online monitoring systems, a plus.
  • Expertise in dynamic simulation as a process operations training tool is an asset.
