As a seasonal member of our Research, Development, and Innovation team, you will learn how new crop varieties are developed in Montana and gain experience in agronomy and crop breeding as you assist with the field and laboratory evaluation of experimental varieties and breeding materials.

 

Outside of the skills and necessary qualifications, you will be committed to sustaining our safe and positive work environment while welcoming working side by side others in a diverse culture. You will also gain practical experience working with farm machinery and driving a truck and towing a trailer.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities May Include:

 

  • Ability to lift 50 Lbs.
  • Full time position M-F with potential for overtime during summer months
  • Seed cleaning, seed treatment and set-up of experiments
  • Seeding of small plot field trials and nurseries
  • Establishing and maintaining nurseries including herbicide application, fertilizing, discing, weeding, rogueing, etc.
  • Operating small plot field equipment such as tractors, seeders, sprayers, and tillage tools
  • Taking accurate and precise agronomic notes (Heights, Lodging, Disease)
  • Operating a small plot combine or swather
  • Fall land preparation, including application of herbicides and fertilizer under the direction of site personnel
  • Equipment calibration and maintenance
  • Assisting technicians, agronomists and plant breeders with other duties as required
  • Some travel to central MT and southern ID during summer will be required

Required Education and Experience:

 

  • Agricultural education and/or related experience and/or farm background an asset but not necessary
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to work outdoors in summer months
  • A high level of attention to detail resulting in consistent outcomes
  • Proven problem-solving abilities in team and individual settings
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
  • A valid driver’s license is required and must be willing to complete a DOT physical
  • Applicants must pass a drug test, and complete mandatory safety training as part of our required safety procedures
