Reporting to the Sr Manager, Netback Accounting & Margin Reporting, the Accountant, Netback Accounting is primarily responsible for the day-to-day transactional freight and shipment activity including month-end close processes, cost stewardship, journal entry creation, account reconciliations, analysis, and reporting.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Preparation of freight, transportation and distribution (T&D) activities related to month-end close, including coordination of internal and external stakeholders and auditor requests as needed.
  • Deliver accurate liquidation reporting to various stakeholders across the business.
  • Complete monthly prepaid relief rate analysis and condition rate inputs.
  • Act as a point of contact for any questions on Freight and T&D financial results, with a strong understanding of key drivers and the underlying transactional data.
  • Assist with collaboration with IT to solve issues, improve processes, and test system upgrades.
  • Perform walkthroughs with SOX and the external auditors of Freight and T&D related processes and key controls.
  • Collaborate with various departments to lead and execute ongoing process improvement initiatives and assist with identifying new areas for improvement. 
  • Aid with ad hoc requests and projects by senior management and/or other key stakeholders as applicable.

What You'll Bring:

  • Post‑secondary degree in accounting, with intent to pursue CPA designation (or currently in progress).
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a similar role or within an accounting firm.
  • Demonstrated time management skills to effectively manage multiple tasks under pressure and to meet deadlines with multiple ongoing initiatives; ability to exercise strong professional judgment with integrity and strong business ethics.
  • Detail oriented while also having a broad conceptual understanding of the application of accounting and materiality in a multifaceted business environment; analytical and strategic mindset and initiative.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a team environment and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrates a strong process improvement mindset, with the ability to analyze workflows, recommend enhancements, and implement sustainable solutions that improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with HANA, Power Query and PowerBI would be considered an asset.  
  • Experience using SAP, Oracle, Mainframe Sales System and BPC would be considered an asset.
