Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Safety, Health, and Environment (SH&E).

 

What you will do:

 

  • Develop a clear vision and strategy for safety and health in the Nitrogen operating segment
  • Implement actions effectively and efficiently in conjunction with Central SH&E, Nitrogen General Manager’s, Nitrogen Site SH&E Teams and Nitrogen Site Operations
  • Facilitate development and utilization of strategic and operational plans to address and improve the control (elimination) of S &H hazards and associated risks
  • Lead various governance teams with representatives from across the organization on SH&E matters
  • Develop and direct annual organizational goals, objectives, policies and operational procedures; monitors and evaluates effectiveness, and effects changes required for continual improvement
  • Provide hands-on technical SH&E expertise related to culture, internal standard, compliance and industry best practices
  • Use technical, human factors and other theoretical knowledge, to research, review and interpret hazard information identifying causation, consequences, controls, including potential failure in controls
  • Support identification and implementation of critical controls for effective SH&E risk management and risk elimination
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate processes and procedures investigating, analyzing and reporting SH&E trends and nonconformities
  • Provide guidance on current and new regulatory expectations
  • Represent Nutrien with outside entities such as regulatory agencies and consultants
  • Anticipate potential legislative change, minimizing the impact of new or changing regulations by recommending potential solutions to Central SH&E and Nitrogen Management
  • Understand how to access, use, evaluate, develop and communicate SH&E evidence
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with internal groups and external stakeholders
  • Collect, evaluate and communicate information from diverse internal and external sources as part of evidence-based practice
  • Lead efforts in Nitrogen Safety and Health for monthly and annual budgets, ensure we meet or exceed agreed budget goals, actively drive cost control across the team
  • Demonstrate leadership skills through coaching and developing the leaders within the team to higher levels
  • Influence leadership by participating in problem solving and organizational review as a subject matter expert, advisor or consultant
  • Operate with a level of autonomy to conceptualize, plan, implement and evaluate S & H projects and risk control and management processes
  • Steward the development of Key Performance Indicators (“KPIs”) and Performance Measures (“PMs”) for S & H
  • Actively engage in performance management including employee development
  • Liaise with General Counsel as well as the leaders of the business units to proactively support their requests and maintain Legal records as needed to meet Nutrien obligations to regulators, agencies and vested parties

 

What you will bring:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Safety, or a relevant field is required
  • A minimum of 10 years of SH&E and operations experience at progressively more senior levels within large scale highly regulated manufacturing industry is required
  • Process Safety regulatory knowledge is mandatory
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation would be an asset
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Ability to analyze regulatory and innovative trends that help the management team set a strategy towards Safety and Health excellence
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials
  • Ability to influence executives and key stakeholders on strategic decisions
  • Business process reengineering experience or familiarity to help operationalize and create KPI’s for the department
  • Proactive, responsive and fully engaged, high energy, driven and takes personal accountability
  • Charisma and presentation skills to impress any regulators and key business partners during the project diligence processes
  • Solution-oriented with demonstrated ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with key stakeholders, peers and team members
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy a fast-changing environment

  • Experience working with both Legal Counsel and International regulators as well as US Federal, State, County and City regulators
  • Adhere to and promote an appropriate set of core values and ethical conduct consistent with all laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills
  • International and domestic travel may be required

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

$140,300- $260,600. This range is estimated for Director, Nitrogen Safety and Health in Loveland, Colorado.  Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
