Nutrien is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Turnarounds to lead the continued advancement of our Turnaround Event Management program across the Nitrogen & Phosphate (N&P) network. This high-impact leadership role is accountable for developing, implementing, and continuously improving turnaround strategies, standards, and execution across all sites.

 

As a trusted coach and mentor, you will support facility teams in preparing for and executing safe, high-quality, and efficient turnaround events—reducing duration and cost while enhancing reliability and compliance. This role also champions post-event assessments to capture learnings and drive continuous improvement.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the Turnaround Program: Set and guide the strategic direction for turnaround activities across the N&P network, ensuring alignment with Nutrien’s operational and business strategies.
  • Promote a Culture of Care: Model and reinforce a safe, inclusive work environment, encouraging open communication at all levels.
  • Ensure Operational Excellence: Apply best practices, refine tools, and embed continuous improvement to drive consistent, high-quality turnaround outcomes.
  • Govern Cost and Schedule: Oversee forecasting, disciplined tracking, and accountability frameworks for turnaround budgets and timelines.
  • Manage Risk: Establish processes for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks throughout the turnaround lifecycle.
  • Engage Stakeholders: Build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders for alignment and coordinated execution.
  • Develop Resources: Support training, coaching, and structured development to ensure site and central teams have required capabilities.
  • Conduct Readiness and Assurance Reviews: Validate turnaround plans, identify gaps, and implement improvement actions.
  • Communicate Consistently: Deliver clear messaging on the program’s purpose, value, and progress to stakeholders at all levels.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant Trades Certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in turnaround execution, including program development, implementation, and management.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven project management capabilities with a focus on delivering business results.
  • Knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of ammonia, urea plants, petrochemical plants, or refineries.
  • Understanding of turnaround drivers related to regulatory compliance and reliability.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, scheduling, and resource management processes.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Primavera, MS Office, and other business systems.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is an asset.
  • Experience in reliability and mechanical integrity processes is considered an asset.
