This position plays an important role in the Enterprise Custom Applications team within Nutrien’s IT, Enterprise Applications organization. The team is responsible for the design, development, and ongoing support of custom-built platforms and solutions that meet the unique needs of Nutrien’s business. Our focus is on building scalable, sustainable, and user-centered applications that enable operational efficiency and align with enterprise goals.

The Lead SDET reports to the Manager, Technology Delivery and will lead the definition, adoption, and improvement of quality assurance practices across custom application teams, ensuring consistent testing approaches, process maturity, and high-quality outcomes across the application lifecycle.

You’ll be writing production grade code, influencing architecture, and driving quality engineering practices across the organization. This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing technical contribution while practicing leadership and mentorship.
What You'll Do:
Â
- Lead the adoption and evolution of automation strategies while balancing with manual testing where appropriate
- Design, build, and maintain robust automation frameworks (UI, API, integration, performance, etc.)
- Develop scalable automated tests suites integrated into CI/CD pipelines
- Define and continuously improve QA practices, standards, and governance models
- Establish consistent testing approaches across teams, including test planning, execution, and reporting
- Hands-on testing and active participation in QA work as a core part of the day-to-day responsibilities
- Mentor and support developers, testers, and product owners in quality practices
- Evaluate and implement testing tools and frameworks as needed
- Partner with software engineers, business analysts, release management, and infrastructure teams to ensure high-quality delivery
- Track and report quality metrics and advocate for quality at all stages of development
What You'll Bring:
Â
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with at least 2 years in a senior or practice defining ledership role
- Strong understanding of QA methodologies, automation, and modern SDLC (Agile, DevOps).
- Hands-on experience with automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Postman, etc.) or equivalent modern frameworks
- Strong programming skills in at least one modern language (C#, JavaScript, Python, etc.)Â
- Proven ability to establish and scale QA practices across multiple teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, Agile environment.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
- Experience working in custom application environments.
- Familiarity with release management and CI/CD integration, CI/CD integration, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and database management systems (PostgreSQL, SQL Server etc.)
