Reporting to the Director, Corporate Accounting, the Manager, Corporate Accounting, will be responsible for the accounting, reporting and analysis of the complex accounting situations within the NPKC Business Unit, including hedging, OCI, Pension accounting and Joint Venture accounting processes. This position requires a high degree of cross-department and cross-business unit interaction. The Corporate Accounting department operates with a significant number of deadlines and reporting obligations and as such, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for the management of complex accounting areas including Natural gas, FX and Interest rate hedge accounting, OCI accounting, Pension accounting, and accounting for M&A and tax step plans when required.
  • Responsible for quarterly review of Embedded Derivatives process and analysis of contracts.
  • Oversight and responsibility for the Joint Venture accounting processes, including monthly journal entry review, monthly financial reporting, compliance with internal controls and timely communication with the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial close processes and reporting including variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects and participate in working committees as required.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Lead and manage a small team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Preparation and review of other month-end close activities including coordination of internal and external stakeholders and auditor requests as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members and departments to find efficiencies in processes with a focus on continuous improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Manage additional ad-hoc requests as required.

What You'll Bring:

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA).
  • 8 years of relevant experience in positions of expanding responsibility, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess accounting implications of complex transactions and provide clear guidance.
  • Demonstrated time management skills to effectively manage multiple tasks under pressure and to meet deadlines with multiple ongoing initiatives; ability to exercise strong professional judgment with integrity and strong business ethics.
  • Detail oriented while also having a broad conceptual understanding of the application of accounting and materiality in a multifaceted business environment; analytical and strategic mindset and initiative.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a team environment and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Possess an automation and efficiency mindset.
  • Experience using SAP, Oracle and BPC consolidation system would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and experience with Hana would be an asset.
