This position plays a key role in the Enterprise Custom Applications team within Nutrien’s IT, Enterprise Applications organization. The team is responsible for the design, development, and ongoing support of custom-built applications and solutions that meet the unique needs of Nutrien’s business. Our focus is on building scalable, sustainable, and user-centered applications that enable operational efficiency and align with enterprise goals.

 

This role reports to the Sr. Manager, Application Development and will oversee the development, quality, release, and support of custom software solutions and services within Nutrien.

 

What you will do:

  • Lead and evolve software testing and quality assurance practices across teams and projects.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of application releases and deployments in collaboration with development and infrastructure teams.
  • Establish and maintain standards for code quality, test automation, and release readiness.
  • Drive continuous improvement in development and release processes through tooling, metrics, and feedback loops.
  • Partner with developers, business analysts, infrastructure, and product teams to align on release timelines and application lifecycle planning.
  • Contribute to governance around application health, performance, and compliance.
  • Build foundational capabilities for low-code platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power Apps) as needed.
  • Lead development teams to build scalable, cyber secure, high performing applications.
  • Manage budgets including project financials, forecasting and resource cost allocations.
  • Leading team members, overseeing professional development, and ensuring that the teams are collaborative and aligned.

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, application lifecycle management, or related roles.
  • 2+ years in a people management or technical leadership position.
  • Strong understanding of modern SDLC practices, CI/CD pipelines, and release management.
  • Experience with quality assurance strategies, including test automation and defect tracking.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through process improvement and operational change.
  • Experience in complex enterprise environments.
  • Ability to balance hands-on guidance with strategic thinking.
  • Enterprise scale knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure and GCP).
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-driven & motivated, with a strong work ethic and a passion for problem solving.
  • Adaptable, courageous, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
