The Senior Manager, Corporate Communications is a strategic, media-savvy communicator with a proven track record in shaping corporate narrative, driving engagement, and safeguarding reputation. This role blends strategic influence with hands-on execution, positioning Nutrien as a trusted voice with employees, stakeholders, and the media.
Reporting to the Director, Corporate and External Communications, this leader will oversee day-to-day corporate media relations, deliver compelling corporate communications, and serve as a trusted partner in reputation management—guiding proactive media strategies as well as responsive issues and crisis communications.
This is a high-impact role that requires exceptional judgment, strong external relationships, and the ability to translate business priorities into clear, consistent, and engaging communications. Success in this role means amplifying Nutrien’s corporate story and reputation in global priority markets, building visibility for executives, maintaining discipline in media engagement, and ensuring corporate communications seamlessly reinforce both business and brand priorities.
What you will do:
- Corporate Narrative & Executive Communications
- Help shape and steward Nutrien’s global corporate narrative, assess current perceptions and define the story we want to be known for, ensuring it reflects our strategy, culture, and leadership
- Elevate Nutrien’s profile with key global audiences by collaborating across communications functions to design and execute an integrated strategy that tells our story in engaging creative ways across both established and emerging channels.
- Partner with the Director to build and deliver a global podium strategy for the CEO, ELT, and VP leaders, positioning them as visible, credible voices in priority markets and on relevant platforms.
- Amplify and contextualize Investor Relations messaging, translating financial and operational results into clear, compelling communications for employees and external stakeholders.
- Develop high-quality executive communications materials—including speeches, op-eds, press releases, and thought leadership content—that strengthen executive visibility and reinforce Nutrien’s reputation and strategic priorities.
- Modern Video / Televisual Communications and Events
- Design and lead a global employee video strategy that brings the Nutrien story to life, showcasing the breadth and impact of our diverse global business.
- Establish processes to curate and source content contributions from across Nutrien’s operations, with centralized post-production and editing managed from Calgary.
- Build a scalable, enterprise-wide video production capability that delivers consistent, high-quality storytelling across platforms.
- Develop and deliver a global live event strategy with televisual-quality production, scripting, and hosting, ensuring large-scale employee events are impactful, professional, and engaging.
- Global Media Relations, Issues & Crisis Management
- Shape Nutrien’s global media and stakeholder engagement strategy, building a comprehensive media dashboard to track, measure, and report on global activity.
- Lead the day-to-day management of corporate and trade media relations, supported by in-market teams and external agencies.
- Build and sustain trusted relationships with key journalists, securing high-value coverage opportunities that strengthen Nutrien’s reputation.
- Serve as a corporate spokesperson when appropriate, representing Nutrien with clarity and credibility.
- Partner with operational communications teams to ensure sites maintain a ready inventory of visual, video, and explainer assets for proactive storytelling or rapid deployment during issues.
- Act as a strategist and executor during issues and crises, collaborating with the Director, operational communicators, and cross-functional partners to ensure coordinated, disciplined responses.
- Develop, maintain, and embed crisis playbooks and protocols, ensuring organizational readiness and consistency in execution.
- Creative & Digital Collaboration
- Partner with the Manager, Digital Communications (dotted line) to align corporate narrative with creative execution across all digital and social channels.
- Amplify earned media, corporate milestones, and executive visibility through integrated use of owned and paid digital platforms, ensuring continuity of voice and impact across audiences.
What will you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Business.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in media, corporate communications, or external affairs.
- Strong track record of managing global and national media engagement.
- Demonstrated expertise in issues management and crisis response.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling skills across formats.
- Proven ability to partner with executives and translate strategy into relatable communications.
- Business acumen spanning corporate and industry-facing sectors.
- Comfortable as a spokesperson and event host.
- Analytical mindset with experience using monitoring and insights to adapt strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to balance proactive reputation building with disciplined risk management.
- Collaborative style with ability to work across geographies and functions.
