Reporting to the Director, Internal Controls, you will be part of the team responsible for planning, executing, and reporting results of audit procedures, primarily relating to the assessment of financial controls over financial reporting to address the requirements of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, and including additional audit activities that add value to the control environment of the company. You will be viewed as a financial controls advisor, working closely with process owners to support and maintain an effective financial control environment, and assisting in providing leadership on effective and efficient financial control environment. The position offers a unique opportunity to see and understand controls across a broad range of Nutrien’s diversified, international operations. Travel may be required, primarily in the second through fourth quarters of the calendar year.

 

This position is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Assess the control design over new and changing financial processes and controls, including identifying and documenting financial controls, designing and conducting test plans, and assessing the results
  • Work with process owners, to identify opportunities for improvement in control design
  • Advise process owners on process documentation and the assessment of the adequacy of financial controls within specific process areas
  • Design test plans and test the operating effectiveness of the financial controls over financial reporting
  • Some testing of IT controls under guidance of an experienced IT auditor
  • Assess the results of financial control and IT testing with the process owners
  • Recommend and monitor remediation of financial controls with process owners where required
  • Maintain financial control documentation
  • Obtain management sign off and acceptance of the process within their specific areas of responsibility

 

What you will bring:

 

  • CPA designation or related degree
  • Six to eight years of related experience. Candidates with less experience may be considered
  • Previous financial control or audit experience specifically related to documentation and testing of financial controls
  • Previous SOx experience with SAP, Oracle, or Peoplesoft would be an asset
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills which are essential for interacting with all levels of the organization
  • Well-developed problem solving, organizational and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated time management skills to meet deadlines as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Visio and Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Able to work independently with limited direct supervision
  • Commitment to deadlines and attention to detail
  • A working knowledge of the COSO framework
