Reporting to the Director, N&P Plant Accounting, the Sr Manager, Site Accounting, Nitrogen East will lead the team that is responsible for providing financial and operations accounting expertise to support plant accounting functions.

 

This position is located in Calgary, Alberta.

 

What you will do:

  • Provide leadership to the accounting team and be the subject matter expert on site accounting matters.
  • Lead policy alignment initiatives and implementation.
  • Review transactions and improve month end close processes for multiple plants.
  • Manage and review ARO estimates and accounting entries.
  • Manage the performance of internal controls, audit responses and SOX controls.
  • Review AFE compliance to accounting standards and policies for multiple plants.
  • Review financial certifications and inventory adjustments for multiple plants.
  • Approve balance sheet account reconciliations for multiple plants.
  • Review/prepare reports on operating and production results which may influence decisions made by plant operations/management and/or specific product line decisions (e.g. Marketing).  
  • Maintain effective working relationships with wide variety of external users / stakeholders across a variety of departments within Wholesale and Corporate BU's (incl. those outside of the accounting/finance function). Manage ad hoc requests directly and adapts to specific requirements of situation. 
  • Develop variety of solutions for moderately complex problems/projects.  Identify business applications and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Apply existing/new accounting standards, policies and procedures to routine and non-routine situations directly related to their role based on established guidelines. 
  • Identify accounting issues associated with ad-hoc/non-routine request and provide recommendations / actions with guidance from Supervisor/Team Leader. 

Leadership: 

  • Facilitate effective collaboration across plant and head office sites and between finance pillars.
  • Apply effective people leadership skills leading a team through performance management, career development, and budget management.
  • Provide support & feedback to team members, including communicating team goals and identifying areas for new training or skill checks.
  • Communicate company goals, safety practices, and deadlines to team.
  • Coach members on achieving goals and developing necessary skills that get results.
  • Set clear team goals and evaluate progress along the way to allow teams to work collaboratively.

 

What you will bring: 

  • An undergraduate degree and a recognized professional accounting designation.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience.
  • 5+ years in a senior lead role either directly or indirectly leading a team of professionals.
  • Experience in a plant environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Accounting/financial concepts and principles.
  • GAAP/IFRS applications in a business environment.
  • Management accounting principles.
  • Experience with large ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
  • Ability to lead, influence and leverage relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data base tools such as Power Query.
  • Exceptional communications and collaboration skills along with interpersonal awareness.
  • Commitment to deadlines and attention to detail.
  • A desire to grow and develop.
