Reporting to the SHE Manager, the Coordinator, Safety is accountable for providing subject matter expertise and field presence with respect to Safety activities. The coordinator, safety is accountable for the implementation and effectiveness of SHE programs, mentoring of site employees and contractors regarding SHE requirements; and for the field level administration of SHE management practices and programs at Nutrien, Carseland Nitrogen Operations.

Carseland Nitrogen Operations is located approximately 20 minutes SE of Calgary.

 

What you will do:

 

  • As the site subject matter expert, support the development, implementation, stewardship (e.g. auditing) and maintenance of all safety programs, policies, practices, and procedures to meet site needs and regulatory requirements (AB OHS Act/Regulation/Code)
  • Ensure incidents and near miss incidents are reported, appropriately investigated, corrective actions assigned, and that findings and recommendations are communicated back to the site
  • Work with the site departments, employees, and contractors to identify safety risks & concerns and implement appropriate mitigating actions for routine and non-routine work and resolve safety items of concern including coordinating activities of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and Serious Injury (SIF) Prevention Committee 
  • Assess the safety risks associated with proposed changes and capital projects, provide subject matter expertise, and make recommendations to minimize risk and mitigate hazards
  • Prepare materials for monthly safety and JOHSC meetings, site toolboxes, special safety meetings, etc. and supporting other departments with meeting facilitation
  • Safety Coordination for projects, planned and unplanned outages, and Turnarounds to ensure systems, equipment and personnel are in place to support completing work in a safe and cost-effective manner
  • Support the development of health and safety related training and onboarding materials and provide health and safety related training and onboarding to all employees as required (including contractor onboarding process). Examples include life critical program training, gas detector training, fall protection training, etc. 
  • Support other Nutrien sites as required for Plant Outages and Facility Auditing

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Completion of a recognized Health and Safety Certificate/Diploma or equivalent
  • TapRoot Investigation Methodology Training is an asset
  • CRSP designation is considered an asset
  • 10+ years' experience in a safety related role in a heavy industrial setting
  • Knowledgeable in all areas of Alberta OHS Act, regulation, and code
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook
