Computational Scientists create applied scientific-based data analytics innovation to transform agronomic decision making for growers, crop consultants, management, and other Nutrien defined stakeholders. Computational scientists work in a collaborative environment participating in cross functional teams. They operate across a variety of domains, principally atmospheric science, agronomic science, agricultural systems, and high-performance compute distributed at-scale across the organization. 

 

What you will do: 

 

  • Research and develop derived, enriched state-of-the-art data products based on integrated scientific approaches that can be applied to scalable product recommendations for localized solutions. 

  • Create system-based recommendations and insights from a diverse array of inputs generating outcome-based value. 

  • Provoke insight, investigation, and expansion of domain knowledge across Nutrien organization. 

  • Maintain and improve existing computational science pipelines ingesting, transforming, and delivering domain solutions in efficient and secure forms. 

  • Drive development from a centralized perspective of science-based integrity, inclusion, and safety, actively contributing to building on these values within the organization. 

  • Understanding of generalized computation as applied to the agricultural domain. 

  • Understanding of specialized applied computational domain (e.g. meteorology, data science, agronomy, geospatial information systems, distributed computing). 

  • Familiarity with distributed computing systems and their application to live, production level system deployment (e.g. AWS). 

  • Proficient in python for scientific programming purposes. 

  • Proficient with version control standards and repository development (e.g. Git). 

  • Proficient with surveying scientific literature. 

  • Self-directed and takes initiative to independently plan work. 

  • Ability to handle multiple objectives simultaneously, self-balancing workload as defined by leadership priority. 

  • Ability to initiate collaboration beyond domain expertise, provoking interdisciplinary development across the larger organization. 

 

What you will bring: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in applied computation, data science, soil or agricultural domain field; experience may be considered in lieu of education. 

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience required, preferably in applied computational or data science environment. 2-3 years of experience preferred. 

  • Familiarity with cropping systems, hydrologic models, soil physics, meteorology, and biogeochemical cycles desired. 

  • Experience with applied domains such as spatial statistics, optimization, GIS, and remote sensing desired. 

  • Current and ongoing maintenance of a valid driver’s license. 

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively up to 15% of the time.
