This position reports to the Director of Safety Health & Environment.
What you will do:
- Strategy – Contribute to SH&E Management Strategy implementing actions effectively and efficiently in conjunction with Central SH&E, Nitrogen General Manager’s, Nitrogen Site SH&E Teams and Nitrogen Site Operations
- Facilitate development and utilization of strategic and operational plans to address and improve the control (elimination) of SH&E hazards and associated risks
- Execution - Develop and direct policies and operational procedures
- Monitor and evaluate effectiveness, implementing changes required for continual improvement
- Provide hands-on technical SH&E expertise related to culture, internal standard, compliance and industry best practices
- Use technical, human factors and other theoretical knowledge, to research, review and interpret hazard information identifying causation, consequences, controls, including potential failure in controls
- Support identification and implementation of critical controls for effective SH&E risk management and risk elimination
- Implement, monitor and evaluate processes and procedures investigating, analyzing and reporting SH&E trends and nonconformities
- Regulatory - Provide guidance on current and new regulatory expectations
- Represent Nutrien with outside entities such as regulatory agencies and consultants
- Anticipate potential legislative change, minimizing the impact of new or changing regulations by recommending potential solutions to Central SH&E and Nitrogen Management
- Understand how to access, use, evaluate, develop and communicate SH&E evidence
- Commitment – Develop, lead and support actions which contribute to all Nutrien Operations “Home safe everyday”
- Relationships - Develop and foster strong relationships with internal groups and external stakeholders
- Develop relationships with Nitrogen Management, SH&E Professionals and Practitioners influencing SH&E strategy, goals and objectives acting as a change agent for continual improvement
- Advise Nitrogen Managers on appropriate management practices to achieve an organizational culture focused on SH&E
- Provide Nitrogen Managers advice based on conceptual and technical knowledge of design, operations and management, mediated by experience, analysis of evidence and critical thought
- Make recommendations addressing identified issues, improving SH&E management as well as risk minimization
- Collect, evaluate and communicate information from diverse internal and external sources as part of evidence-based practice
- Budgeting and Finance – ensure financial responsibilities and agreements are met, actively leading cost control across the budgetary range of responsibility
- Leadership will play a key role in this position by
- Provide leadership in SH&E and act as an exemplar of SH&E practice and behavior to peers, coworkers and the public
- Steward the strategic vision of the team’s leaders and department with effectively interacting with senior leaders across the Nitrogen business
- Demonstrating leadership skills through coaching and developing the leaders within the team to higher levels
- Influence management participating in problem solving and organizational review as subject matter experts, advisor or consultants
- Operate with a level of autonomy to conceptualize, plan, implement and evaluate SH&E projects and risk control and management processes
- Make high-level independent judgments actively collaborating with Central SH&E, Nitrogen Management and other business units
- Steward the development of Key Performance Indicators (“KPIs”) and Performance Measures (“PMs”) for SH&E
- Monitor progress towards achievement of KPIs/PMs
- Actively engage in performance management including employee development
- Recognize the maturity of the organization’s culture working with managers to influence positive evolution increasing organizational SH&E culture
What you will bring:

- Bachelor degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geology, Hydrology, or other related field of study. (Master’s Degree considered an asset)
- 10+ years professional experience; minimum 5 years relevant SH&E experience at a senior leadership level
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Strong technical expertise in culture, SH&E management and working with regulators
- Excellent theoretical and working knowledge of safety, health, environmental, training, incident investigation, emergency response, product stewardship and cultural development related to chemical operations

- Strong technical expertise in culture, Exposure Based Safety, SH&E management and working with regulators
- Excellent working knowledge of regulatory agencies such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, DHS, Department of Agriculture
- Excellent working knowledge of standard setting bodies such as ANSI, NFPA, ISO, ASME and API.

Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this role, in Loveland, CO, is between $105,300 - $180,500. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.
