Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Government & Industry Affairs, the Government & Industry Affairs Manager will be self-motivated and able to work autonomously to build the Company’s network, influence and impact with public policy decision makers in priority Canadian jurisdictions (federal and provincial). This individual is expected to anticipate, triage and manage policy issues that can impact or support Nutrien’s business objectives.

 

This position is based in our Ottawa, Ontario office and the successful candidate will be expected to attend the office 5 days per week.

 

What you will do:

  • Work closely with other departments within Nutrien to ensure consistency and integration of all message delivery efforts that may impact the Company’s relationship with its Canadian government stakeholders and partners.
  • Support, develop and execute on a multifaceted Government and Industry Affairs Strategy involving a number of priority jurisdictions within Canada.
  • Work closely with all corporate functions to meet government relations requirements and serving in an executional and advisory role as required.
  • Develop and/or improve the quality and quantity of relationships in key jurisdictions across all levels of government (bureaucratic and political).
  • Work with industry partners, third-party associations, and industry coalitions to help develop and advocate corporate positions.
  • Act as a key strategic resource for the Company in monitoring studies and research pertaining to policy, legislation, and industry trends; develop and provide briefings and guidance to internal and external stakeholders; support and help manage the Company’s response to proposed and enacted legislation and regulations.
  • In coordination with Nutrien’s Legal Department, help ensure compliance with all government regulatory requirements for lobbyist registration and record-keeping.
  • Promote Nutrien as an industry leader and represent the Company in relationships with governing bodies and industry associations in Canada.

 

What you will bring:

  • 8-10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in the field of Government Relations and/or political management.
  • Familiarity with the key government programs and priorities in relevant Canadian jurisdictions.
  • A fundamental understanding of the external drivers of, and risks to, the agriculture, mining and fertilizer industries.
  • Strong working-level relationships with government officials and regulatory authorities.
  • Prior experience with agriculture or mining industry associations is an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as political science, agriculture, economics, history, marketing, public relations, or equivalent experience.
  • A history of self-motivation and independence.
  • Proficiency in establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel extensively is essential.
