What You'll Do:

 

  • Model our core value of safety by enabling and leading a culture in which you are actively contributing to a safe work environment
  • Actively lead site safety efforts through ongoing education of our construction partners, ensuring their adherence and support of Nutrien Safety standards to ensure everyone goes home safe every day
  • Develop scopes of work and coordinate with Director of Construction and the Senior Manager of Construction in the preparation of Requests for Proposals
  • Review and analyze proposals for accuracy and completeness prior to submission for approval from Construction leadership
  • Following a thorough review of plans and specifications, offer guidance regarding cost, constructability and integrity of materials, methods, and systems. Appropriately recommend innovative and value engineering options
  • Negotiate with contractors, consultants, vendors, and suppliers to obtain the most complete scope of work at the best price and schedule. Present recommendations regarding award of work to senior management and key stakeholders
  • Review RFIs, submittals, change order requests and similar documents for approval
  • Conduct pre-approval of payment applications and invoices to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain and retain organized project files in paper and electronic formats
  • Review, interpret and analyze critical path construction schedules to proactively identify deviations and opportunities for improvement. Utilize scheduling expertise to develop key completion dates prior to contract execution. Collaborate with contractors in adjusting workforce activities to ensure scheduling compliance
  • Perform construction monitoring to determine compliance with plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, industry standards, laws, and regulations
  • Attend and participate in/lead Construction Progress Meetings, Design Coordination Meetings, Payment Application Meetings, and other meetings as requested
  • Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships among co-workers, partners, clients, contractors, consultants, municipal officials, etc
  • Actively engage in process improvement efforts making meaningful recommendations
  • Complete additional tasks to meet business objectives. Demonstrate willingness to support other operating groups and/or managers within the organization for special projects

What You'll Bring:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or related field is required
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience with a general contractor or a developer managing new turnkey construction projects
  • Skilled in utilizing Microsoft tools for budget analysis, data tracking, and related project lifecycle activities
  • Proficient in project management software (Microsoft Smartsheet)
  • Working knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the new construction and renovation of agriculture related buildings and storage systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of Environmental, Health, and Safety concepts within a commercial agricultural environment
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering and technology related to the design and construction of bulk fertilizer buildings and storage bins
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and strategies for the protection of workers, the general public, materials and structures during construction
  • Must be able to comprehend complex documents and government regulations written in English. Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats
  • Comfortable making regular presentations in an organized and persuasive format to internal and external project teams, senior management, and key stakeholders
  • Familiar with design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of coordinated construction documents and related design work (conceptual design, BIM/Revit, etc.)
  • Able to coordinate the work of internal and external design teams throughout the design and construction administration processes
  • Familiar with legal, economic, and accounting principles and practices utilized in construction to competently navigate contract reviews, budgets, invoices, and change orders
  • Able to simultaneously manage multiple projects of various sizes and scope
  • Exercise initiative in solving problems under limited supervision
  • Proven track record in managing multiple, competing priorities consistently meeting project deadlines
  • Keen ability to execute tactics and actions which support highly visible strategic initiatives
  • Capable of traveling 50% to 60% within the US to visit project sites
  • Experience working with Metal Building Systems is a bonus
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) designation is a plus
  • Design-build background is beneficial
  • Knowledge of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams is preferred

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

 

The salary range for this role, in Deerfield Corporate Office location, is between $120,000 - $130,000. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

 

We provide an attractive benefits package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, vision coverage, and life insurance and well as disability coverage for positions working more than 30 hours per week. In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
