This position will oversee responsibilities for the sale of products to assigned accounts and those assigned to direct reports.  They will develop sales plans, implement pricing structures and manage shipping cost that maximize margins and overall profits while maintaining a strong commitment to ethical conduct and integrity.  They will perform departmental forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis.  This position travels between 50-75% of the time.  In addition, they must also document and report sales results to the Vice President, Feed & Industrial Sales while evaluating both the positives and negatives of present and prospective business relationships.  Position is responsible for the sales, strategy and marketing of the DEF, CO2, industrial potash and wholesale purified phosphoric acid portfolios marketing.  This position will serve as a team leader, coach and mentor for their direct reports, managing the teams’ ongoing progress toward strategic goals and objectives.

 

Location: Chicago Sales Office in Deerfield-IL, Loveland-CO, Calgary-AB

 

What you will do:

 

  • Establishes, reviews and implements sales strategy for Nutrien operations.
  • Sets objectives for Nutrien long term marketing plan for DEF, CO2, industrial potash and wholesale purified phosphoric acid to improve and insure maximum gross margin potential for the product line.
  • Develop market intelligence reports on short- and long-term pricing trends for the domestic DEF, CO2, industrial potash and wholesale purified phosphoric acid for Sr Sales and N, P and K Commercial teams.
  • Communicate regularly with customers and field higher level issues for direct reports with the same, contact may be monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annual based on the customers’ needs and the product line.
  • Develop working business relationships with DEF, CO2, industrial potash and wholesale purified phosphoric acid buyers in North America through sales calls.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding changes within our industry and those of our customers through sales calls, credit reporting, publications, internet research, trade shows, conferences, etc.
  • Establish an annual plan to obtain goals and targets, provide coaching and manage the teams’ ongoing progress toward the department’s strategic goals and objectives to become familiar with all product lines and the needs of our customers in order to create a cross-trained team to meet goals and targets to increase margin opportunities and maintain the most profitable product mix.
  • Prepare market intelligence and market presentations in conjunction with the Nutrien market research group for quarterly presentations to customers and management.
  • Responsible for achieving or exceeding sales goals to maximize margin opportunities for direct accounts and those of the direct reports through quarterly goals that are measured monthly, maintains open communication with the nitrogen commercial team to remain the most profitable product mix while fulfilling our customer requirements.
  • The goal is to develop strong relationships with our internal support groups, ie. Customer Service; N, P and K Commercial; TD&L and Credit Department and must be involved to make product decisions to maximize the profitability to the corporation while maintaining good customer relationship.
  • Work with the Commercial Directors to insure working sales plan and product balance.
  • Work closely with TDL to manage transportation cost for our dedicated rail fleet and terminals to minimize our cost to serve.
  • Works with Customer Service Director to provide Nutrien customers a consistently high level of professional service and ensures that customer requirements are met. Maintains in communication with Customer Service as the main contact for the customer to ensure that all products are focused on accurately.  Provides guidance when necessary.
  • Work closely with the Credit department; if financial situation changes with a customer must revisit.
  • Performs departmental forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis responsibilities to reduce risk to the corporation and encourage strong profits.
  • Provides management with a consistent stream of industry feedback to assist in directing the course of sales purchases and inventory.  Prepares, interprets and recommendations to achieve quarterly goals and targets.
  • Must maintain an awareness of customers, competitors and environment should situations change; keep credit and customer financial matters at forefront.  Document and report sales results to the Vice President, Feed & Industrial Sales while evaluating both the positives and negatives of present and prospective business relationships.

 

What you will bring:

 

  • College degree (BS/BA)
      • Preferred degree in Sales, Marketing or Supply Chain
  • MBA or related advanced degree preferred
  • 15+ years sales experience
  • 15+ years industry experience
  • 5+ years of managerial experience
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience (project leadership, product leadership, etc.)
  • Ability to travel 40-50% of the time
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of sales, business conduct, contracts and our products
  • Good analytical, communication (both written and verbal), negotiation, and interpersonal skills and display strong planning, organizing, communication and leadership/directing skills and integrity
  • A strong business and commercial sense that has been gained through education and customer exposure

  

Compensation & Benefits:

 

Salary Range $172,000-236,500. This range is provided for this position in Loveland, CO. Salary and benefits may vary based on location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our plan(s), which provide discretionary award opportunities reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
