The Sr. Buyer is a pivotal role to achieve our goals of sourcing strategy excellence. This role will have the opportunity to help implement and ensure high-quality execution of capital projects and site operational procurement duties. This role is also responsible for executing day-to-day site procurement duties, supporting areas as assigned by leadership. This role will be report to the Procurement Manager and is not eligible for remote work.  Travel may be required.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Represent Nutrien Procurement with engineering, operations, maintenance, and contractors.
  • Manage the ISNetworld database to ensure key suppliers maintain compliance.
  • Manage project and site supplier contracts to ensure compliance and best value for Nutrien.
  • Facilitate supplier setups and updates, and assist with communication and implementation of new contracts.
  • Conduct source-to-pay procurement activities for capital, site operational, raw material, and maintenance suppliers, including RFx, PO creation, and invoice/payment reconciliation.
  • Process invoices in a timely manner in accordance with Nutrien procurement policies and procedures.
  • Address inquiries from suppliers and engage appropriate stakeholders as required.
  • Reorder materials as needed based on requests, within defined spend limits and reorder points, using procurement-aligned business processes and supporting systems.
  • Maintain engagement with the Site Procurement Manager to understand coordination needs and identify synergies across procurement responsibilities.
  • Work with the Procurement Manager and site leadership to draft contract terms and conditions that reflect requirements, Nutrien best practices, and desired KPIs.
  • Manage approval paths required to execute contracts and keep key stakeholders informed of supplier commitments.
  • Validate contract reporting requirements and prepare and maintain related reporting.
  • Engage regularly with contracted parties to ensure stakeholders remain informed of all reporting and execution requirements outlined in contracts.
  • Support the supplier management program for the site, building strong supplier relationships, establishing regular engagement with strategic suppliers, and using KPIs to track service levels and improve performance.
  • Support holding suppliers accountable for service levels, escalating issues to the site as needed.

What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum 6+ years relevant experience in strategic sourcing and supply chain management and a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, management or similar.
  • Experience with major categories such as: Electrical & Instrumentation, Engineered Equipment, Construction Services, Engineering Services, Project Management etc.
  • Broad experience in supply chain, source-to-pay processes and tools, category strategy implementation, supplier contract execution, and supplier risk management.
  • Analytical abilities and experience using quantitative insights to make decisions and influence stakeholders.
  • Deep familiarity with the Microsoft office suite, practical experience with enterprise asset management systems (SAP/Oracle), spend management tools (e.g., Ariba, Analysis & Reports), data management tools and source-to-pay systems (eProcurement).
  • Certifications in disciplines such as Procurement (SCMP/CPSM), Inventory Management (CIPS), Lean / Six Sigma, or Operational Planning preferred, but not required.
  • Impact orientation and bias to action – Nutrien is looking for a proactive individual to deliver considerable value to the procurement function while requiring minimal supervision.
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to identify solutions to the problems of the operation with the lowest total cost of ownership.
  • Ability to handle tough negotiations, unique challenges, and analyze processes in areas using continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Empathy and relational skills for teamwork are fundamental to this role.
