This position reports to the Manager, Process Engineering and is located onsite in Geismar. Remote work is not available.

 

 

What you will do:

 

  • Monitor operating plants to identify opportunities, threats, and performance vulnerabilities.
  • Analyze real‑time and historical plant data to detect abnormalities and optimize operations (e.g., compressor/turbine efficiency, exchanger performance, catalyst activity, pressure drop surveys).
  • Use process knowledge to identify and develop improvement initiatives, including those requiring capital investment.
  • Build and maintain process simulation models for troubleshooting, optimization, and project evaluations.
  • Lead and support shutdown/turnaround activities, including catalyst change‑outs, exchanger cleaning, and capital project execution.
  • Participate in and lead Process Safety activities, including PHAs, MOCs, PSSRs, and Process Safety Information updates.
  • Conduct engineering studies to troubleshoot plant issues, predict potential problems, and improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Provide process engineering support for brownfield expansions, equipment replacements, design improvements, and capital project selection.
  • Collaborate with operators and shift supervisors to align theoretical models with real‑world plant performance.
  • Research industry advancements and maintain networks with other nitrogen and chemical facilities.
  • Support investigations into production issues and process upsets.
  • Ensure engineering standards are maintained across assigned areas.
  • Perform process modeling, heat and material balances, equipment sizing, and hydraulic calculations.

 

What you will bring:

 

  • BSc in Chemical Engineering.
  • Post‑graduate engineering or project management certification is an asset.
  • Minimum 10+ years of industrial experience, including 5+ years supporting Ammonia, Urea, or Nitric Acid operations.
  • Strong proficiency with Aspen HYSYS/Unisim, exchanger design software (EDR/HTR), and hydraulic modeling tools.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and codes (RAGAGEP) and process equipment design.
  • Experience with project management best practices, tools, and economic evaluations.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop others.
