Safety Specialist - (Geismar, Louisiana, U.S.A)

 

 What you will do:

 

  • Provide coordination, guidance, and support for the safety programs/processes at the Geismar plant
  • Be present in the field 80% of the time
  • Serve as the safety liaison for assigned operations and maintenance departments
  • Monitor work areas for compliance of safety policies throughout the plant
  • Coordinate the Hazard Communication program for the site
  • Provide safety support for nested and non-nested contractor groups
  • Monitor safety audits and provide feedback to Safety Superintendent and HS&E Manager
  • Monitor JHAs throughout the plant
  • Conduct safety meetings and safety audits
  • Assist in Industrial Hygiene monitoring of the Geismar site
  • Ensure implementation of Nutrien safety guidance documents
  • Serve as the fire protection subject matter expert
  • Participate in incident investigations
  • Order/recommend safety supplies and equipment
  • Serve as an regular member of the Emergency Response Team and assist coordinating drills on site. (Training, Equipment, Drills, Implementation of ERP, etc.)
  • Recommend safety work requests for the plant
  • Report hazards when detected
  • Comply with environmental rules and regulations
  • Develop and conduct annual required safety training
  • Conduct contractor kick-off meetings
  • Attend emergency response training
  • Work nights and weekends as required during plant outages and emergencies
  • Assist with site security as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

 

What you will bring:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Post high school technical training in safety and emergency response disciplines; Associate/Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years safety experience in an industrial setting preferred; prior exposure to BST behavioral based safety process is plus
  • Some knowledge/experience in PSM compliance
  • Experience in Emergency Response, Haz-Mat, Fire or Rescue desirable
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company standards and its insurers
  • Ability to obtain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) as issued by TSA (Transportation Security Administration)
  • ASP/CSP Desired
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and multi-task
  • Proficient command of regulations and ability to interact with customers, regulatory agencies, and peers
  • Capable of assisting in development of Safety policies and procedures
  • Must possess leadership and personnel management skills with exceptional work ethic and dependability
  • Must have experience in training and instructing employees
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally (face to face and by telephone) and in writing, in English with coworkers, contractors, government officials and Senior Management
  • Ability to read and understand written material (in English)
  • Ability to use and understand basic numerical calculations, safety rules and operations instructional guides and procedures manuals
  • Must be able to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and problems
  • Able to organize and prioritize multiple projects and adjust quickly as needed
  • Ability to accept direction and work effectively & cooperatively with other people
  • Must have intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point)
  • Must be goal orientated, self-motivated and able to work autonomously
  • Must have strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing to work in protected areas at heights
  • Must be able to work over water (dock)
  • Must be able to reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Must be able to hear and smell for deficiencies or hazards
  • Must be able to pass a respiratory fit test
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance
  • Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required
  • Must be available to respond to call-out as assigned
  • Must be able to withstand moderate noise levels
