The Chief Metallurgical Engineer reports to the Mill Operations Superintendent. This position is located at the Nutrien Lanigan Potash site.
What you will do:
- Supervise personnel within area of responsibility to ensure that safe and productive work is performed.
- Assign/schedule work and perform regular follow-up on work activities so crew personnel are working in an efficient and effective manner. Perform required compliance checks, key procedure audits, area inspections, and job observations. Conduct dispatch, line out, and safety meetings.
- Train new personnel and complete follow-up assessments, as well as keep experienced personnel informed as to the most efficient methods of performing their assignments. Ensure that safe work habits are enforced and instruct safe methods of doing work. Assists in technical training programs and implementation of approved safety practices to achieve an efficient and safe operation.
- Recommend the alteration or modification to existing systems, provides technical advice to personnel for improving maintenance and operating efficiency.
- Respond to scheduled and unscheduled callouts. Provide weekend supervisory coverage as scheduled to respond to unplanned equipment repairs and other emergency problems.
- The Chief Metallurgical Engineer must organize and motivate themselves and staff to safely and efficiently achieve maximum refinery production and product recovery, maintain and control a high standard of product quality.
- Direct the Metallurgical Department to achieve maximum refinery production, product recovery and product quality.
- Implement, evaluate, recommend and incorporate research and development projects for process improvements and expansion at the Division.
- Monitor the product quality programs and administer revisions and evaluations as required to maintain the high standard of product quality control.
- Supervise the calculation and reporting of daily, monthly and annual metallurgical balances, for economic control of the Lanigan Potash.
- Forecast by historical record and future estimates, annual operating budget for department.
- Review technological advances with the industry and provids technical knowledge through leadership and training to subordinates to improve the technical proficiency of their department.
