What You'll Do:

  • Assist in seed planting, ensuring that seeds are planted at the correct rate and depth.
  • Conduct plant counts and take field notes (utilizing various iPhone applications) on crop emergence.
  • Scout production fields to monitor crop conditions and identify problem weeds and insects.
  • Manage the isolation needs of canola throughout the season.
  • Lead repeated and systematic rouging efforts to clear fields of off-types, volunteer plants, noxious weeds, and diseased plants.
  • Scout future seed production fields to limit possible mutation and intercrossing between self-pollinating undesired and desired plants.
  • Model our core value of safety by always utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and following safety protocols.
  • Safely operate a company vehicle, travelling locally on a daily basis returning to home location at end of shift.
  • Embrace a safety-mindset, committing to safe work practices through Key Daily Actions.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and enthusiasm to complete additional tasks to meet business objectives.

What You'll Bring:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent certificate is required.
  • A Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor weather conditions for the majority of work shift.
  • Able to stoop, bend, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Skilled in repetitive pulling and grasping with hands and arms.
  • Accountability to team with dependable attendance and completion of assigned workload.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness to collaborate with colleagues and leaders.
  • Flexibility to adjust shift start time based on weather conditions.
  • Organized approach to completing work in alignment with priorities.
  • Post secondary education in Agriculture, Crop and Soil sciences, or Ag Technology is an asset.
  • Previous work experience in agricultural field scouting is an asset.
