Job Summary
This position reports to the Process Engineering Superintendent and is responsible for maintaining, improving, and expanding basic and advanced process control, burner management, and safety instrumented systems as well as supporting operations’ interaction with these automation systems. The Senior Process Controls Engineer will apply state-of-the-art technology to improve process safety, increase reliability and optimize plant efficiency.
What You'll Do:

- Provide guidance to I&E maintenance and project engineers as a subject matter expert in the areas of instrument and logic solver selection, instrument and logic solver installation, and interpretation of RAGAGEP codes and corporate standards as they apply to control systems. These activities can involve the direction of 1-2 contract personnel
- Actively engage with the operations team to meet their objectives towards a safe, reliable, and efficient Nitrogen production and distribution facility. The Senior Process Controls Engineer will assist Operations with in-depth and timely analysis of process events and trends leading to timely and opportune enhancements
- Develop, manage, and implement plans that mitigate facility risk including safety instrumented systems (SIS) as well as cyber security to meet regulatory, Lima Nitrogen, and Nutrien long term objectives
- Responsible for the design and implementation of I&E related capital projects. These projects involve providing directions to internal and external project team members. These activities typically involve the direction of 1-2 contract personnel
- Lead management of change (MOC) processes, conduct timely investigations and root-cause analyses (RCA’s), manage work tasks through task management applications, generate workflows through maintenance management system, guide cyclic TAR work scope, and work collectively with the Process Engineering staff to provide concept-to-resolution risk mitigation through compliance and project hazard analysis
- Available by cell phone to respond to plant emergencies (or other needs) and be flexible to work abnormal hours during plant outage or turnaround (TAR) periods
What You'll Bring:

- Safety as a core value
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical preferred
- 10+ years of experience in a chemical plant or similar environment with responsibilities involving process controls engineering, instrumentation or related field
- Professional Engineering Designation is preferred
- Experience solving complex operational and process control problems with automated solutions is required
- Foxboro, Rockwell Automation, Triconex, Aveva PI experience is preferred
- Previous leadership experience is preferred
- Knowledge of ammonia, urea, and nitric acid manufacturing processes is preferred
