Reporting to the Benefits Administration Manager, the Retirement Analyst is responsible for the administration of Nutrien’s Canadian Retirement and Savings Plans, including registered and non-registered plans, and Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution Pension plans, while ensuring compliance with Plan Documents, and all federal and provincial laws and regulations. The role will also be the main backup of the U.S. Retirement Plans including 401k and Defined Benefit Pension Plans. This role requires well-developed communication skills to exchange information about programmatic and operational matters with a diverse array of persons having varying levels of technical knowledge, viewpoints, and requirements. Contacts are diverse and significant, and require the employee to maintain in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of the Plans administered. They have direct interfaces with the HR Solution Center (HRSC) team, Benefits Center of Excellence, Payroll, HR Business Partners, and Third-Party Vendors.

 

What you will do:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to employees from a diverse organization who are seeking additional information relevant to Retirement Plans.
  • Solid understanding of end-to-end administrative processes as it relates to retirement plan requirements.
  • Maintain broad and up-to-date knowledge of Canadian/US legislations pertaining to pension and savings plans as the Subject Matter Expert to assist in administrative and procedural decisions.
  • Exercise judgment on sensitive issues in alignment with corporate policy/regulations.
  • Build relationships internally and collaborate with cross-functional teams to complete tasks and to ensure timely and unified delivery of services.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date information is maintained in the HR systems.
  • Maintain complete and accurate work papers and audit trails.
  • Reconcile biweekly pension and savings plan contribution files and submit for payment.
  • Provide information to Plan actuaries and Plan record-keepers/administrators as required.
  • Support the compliance audits and filings, as well as independent auditors; ensure timely delivery of required information being requested; resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the plan designs (e.g., benefit formulas, options, eligibility).
  • Apply data analytical skills, trouble shooting, pension calculation logic and business requirements development.
  • Assist with HRIS system maintenance and system testing of pension and savings plans to ensure consistency with plan provisions and administrative requirements.
  • Identify, recommend, and support new approaches/efficiencies and improvements of systems and procedures in order to enhance the HRSC’s efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures and process documentation for plans, considering established deadlines.
  • Provide guidance and support to the business relating to plans, policies, processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform ongoing development and review of audits for input to maintain data integrity by preventing errors in HR information and providing reporting to monitor tasks.
  • Ensure any new programs and/or updated process information is captured and administered correctly.
  • Support the ongoing development and continuous improvement initiatives within the HRSC by participating in activities such as the review and update of process documentation, cross training, and team collaboration.
  • Ensure that your work is managed effectively and efficiently through company systems and resources.
  • Remain adaptable and supportive of any new or changing technologies.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities, work independently and complete multiple projects within established deadlines and be accountable to team members for project responsibilities.
  • Safeguard employee privacy where appropriate, including confidentiality and protection of sensitive information.
  • Ensure that health, safety, security, and risk issues are considered and factored into all areas of activity; regular reviews are undertaken, and actions taken, as necessary.
  • Interpret Union Collective Bargaining Agreements as they relate to pension plans and the laws that govern them.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to the HRSC Employee Support Team to assist with upskilling their knowledge of retirement plans to enable them to respond to customer inquiries as the first point of contact.
  • Perform ad-hoc support as requested by Manager, including items such as testing, compliance audits and project work.

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or HR, or equivalent experience and certification.
  • 5+ years pension plan experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Canadian pension and savings plans, practices, policies, and regulatory requirements, including government filings. Knowledge of U.S. retirement plans is an asset.
  • Technology skills including Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint at intermediate level; SAP, Success Factors, and ServiceNow experience preferred.
  • Experience of working in a HR Shared Service Environment utilizing a Case Resolution System is an asset.
  • Excellent customer-service orientation.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with patience and empathy in both written and verbal communications.
  • Comfortable working with multiple functions and in a multi-tasking, deadline oriented, team environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and respond to client inquiries by telephone or email.
  • Ability to review, analyze and resolve interface file errors.
  • Thorough attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, analytical, critical thinking skills, and initiative to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strengths in decision-making and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and respond appropriately to urgent requests.

  • Ability to be flexible in terms of working schedule, potential requirement to work overtime or weekends during peak activity periods and to meet payroll deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a fast-paced team within an open plan corporate office environment.

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

The salary range for this role, in Loveland, CO, is between $71,900 - $123,100. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
