The Director, Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Advanced Analytics is a visionary leadership role accountable for advancing Nutrien’s enterprise-wide transformation agenda with AI, ensuring all applications are developed and deployed safely and ethically. This leader partners closely with senior-level business leadership across the organization to proactively identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities where artificial intelligence can be a strategic differentiator for Nutrien, unlocking competitive advantage and driving measurable business outcomes.
In this role, the Director, Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Analytics steers the safe and ethical application of AI by aligning strategy with Nutrien’s core values and commitments. Leading a global team of AI Professionals and Data Scientists, this position demands a collaborative approach to enable and accelerate innovative AI solutions in partnership with stakeholders across the business, ensuring that AI-driven advancements directly support Nutrien’s overarching goals and enterprise transformation initiatives.
What you will do:
- Lead Nutrien’s global Artificial Intelligence practice, focusing on safe, secure, scalable and trusted technology that delivers measurable business value
- Lead, develop and retain a globally dispursed team consisting of employees, contractors and third party service providers to both create and sustain Nutrien’s AI Assets.
- Lead all aspects of ongoing efforts to guide and improve artificial intelligence and data science design & development practices, champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization and partner with key team members to drive artificial intelligence literacy and adoption.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence within the AI/ML team, providing mentorship and supporting professional development.
- Develop and maintain the organization’s AI strategy, policy and practices, ensuring alignment with Nutrien’s overarching vision, goals, and governance standards.
- Accountable for responsible and ethical AI practices, embedding robust governance, risk mitigation, and compliance into all initiatives.
- Responsible to understand, evaluate and recommend AI tools, platforms, and frameworks, ensuring solution relevance in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
- Engage senior executive stakeholders to identify and champion AI-driven opportunities, fostering organizational readiness and adoption of AI capabilities.
- Facilitate effective collaboration between business and technical teams, ensuring clear communication and successful technology outcomes
- Translate technical AI concepts into compelling business narratives, clearly articulating value to non-technical audiences and senior leadership
- Champion change management and deliver a superior stakeholder experience throughout all phases of AI program delivery.
- Build strategic partnerships and alliances with key business and industry entities to achieve organizational objectives and improve the value of investments
- Establish performance metrics and structured frameworks to measure and track business value created by AI initiatives.
People/Team: - Direct Reports: 2-3 direct employees
- Indirect Reports: 5-15 indirect reports (solid line to direct reports)
- Contractors: 10-30 depending on project load
- Work with IT and non-IT teams across North America, Australia and South America
What you will bring:
- 15 years of experience in progressively more senior leadership roles within AI/Data space, with at least 8 years of experience in a leading role managing AI/ML projects.
- Master’s Degree Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Statistics or related field (Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning is preferred).
- High-performing leader, who brings a positive approach to each day, and fosters a culture of care.
- Track Record of developing, motivating and retaining employees as part of implementing a truly high performance team.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Extensive knowledge of AI/ML technologies, methodologies and operational processes, including strong understanding of platform engineering principles and best practices and cloud based AI services and platforms.
- Highly experienced in AI/ML operations or related field with a strong understanding of AI techniques, advanced analytics, and their application in business transformation.
- Experience delivering successful business outcomes through program and project delivery, where you demonstrated strong project management skills.
- Proven ability to innovate and implement cutting-edge operational strategies in AI/ML.
- Ability to proactively and independently manage a high volume of competing priorities, while building effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively cope with ambiguity.
- Self-starter with a high energy level, demonstrated success in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, project management and leadership skills are a must.
- Familiarity with contemporary frameworks and approaches for structured value delivery and change management.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this role, in Loveland, CO, is between $140,300 - $240,500. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.
