Reports to the Senior Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment.
What you will do:
- Provide timely advice and counsel for day-to-day matters to Nutrien’s Human Resources Department and Nutrien Leaders on a broad range of labor and employment matters -- including benefits, pension, performance matters, terminations, reductions in force, compensation and commission plans, accommodations, leaves, disability management, human rights matters, administrative matters, and internal investigations.
- Support the Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment and work with the Senior Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment in relation to U.S. labor and employment legal matters and the global Employment Center of Excellence.
- Stay abreast of developments in federal, state, and local employment laws and employment legislation and assist in communications to internal stakeholders and updates of policies regarding the same.
- Draft, review, and advise on employee handbooks including global and jurisdiction specific policies.
- Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, and other employment-related inquiries.
- Advise, instruct, and manage external counsel in relation to employment litigation and labor litigation in the Corporation’s U.S.’s operations.
- Draft, revise and communicate the Corporation’s internal policies and procedures on matters related to labor and employment law, in consultation with the Senior Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment and the Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment.
- Manage all aspects of local and state agency claims (e.g. EEOC, DOL, and other federal and state agency matters) including drafting of position statements and mediating such claims as required
- Provide support for regulatory and compliance matters such as EEOC, OFCCP, and EEO-1 reporting.
- Assist with compliance with the OFCCP and related state specific requirements.
- Assist with preparing and providing in-person/live training to Leaders and employees on labor and employment legal issues, as well as related Nutrien policies and procedures.
- Assist in the management of the Legal Department’s administration matters.
- Assist with strategic-focused employment law compliance projects.
- Other duties as required.
What you will bring:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. college or university and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- At least 3 years in experience at a law firm or as in-house counsel with a focus on advising on various labor and employment legal matters.
- Deep knowledge of federal and key state employment laws (e.g., Title VII, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA).
- Experience analyzing and providing advice on federal, state, and local wage and hour compliance.
- Expertise in State labor and employment laws and regulations including but not limited to wage and hour, rest and meal breaks, FLSA.
- Knowledge of US pension and benefits laws and regulations preferred.
- General knowledge of and interest in labor and employment matters outside of North America preferred.
- Experience in conducting and providing legal advice regarding internal investigations.
- Experience with records retention programs and legal hold processes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the Corporation.
- Proven ability to drive business forward and achieve results, while managing risk and protecting the Corporation.
- Working knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Demonstrate ability to identify risks and propose alternative solutions to mitigate risks.
- Experience in successfully managing external counsel, litigation files and legal budgets.
- Proficient in extrapolating and analyzing information and have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Demonstrate exceptional decision-making, leadership and problem-solving skills, have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and take initiative where appropriate.

Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this role, in Colorado, is between $154,400 - $264,600. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.
