This role is required to be on-site. This role will be posted from September 12th - October 13th, 2025
Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, Midstream & Upstream, this position will be responsible for providing a broad range of legal services to Nutrien’s Upstream operating segments (Nitrogen, Phosphate, and Potash) and the Midstream Transportation, Distribution & Logistics (TD&L) business unit. Responsibilities will include drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts, including goods and services agreements, engineering and construction contracts, TD&L agreements (rail, trucking, shipping), real estate transactions, and other contracts as necessary for the business. This position will also advise on regulatory matters such as environmental compliance and safety incident response/investigations as well as pre-litigation contract claims and disputes. The position will also provide input on the decisions of whether to send matters to outside counsel and will assist in the oversight of outside counsel when retained.
What you will do:
- Provide legal support to the Upstream and Midstream operating segments on a broad range of matters including miscellaneous contracts; rail, freight, trucking and other transportation support contracts; contracts for the procurement of goods and services; NDAs; real estate transactions; warranty issues; disclosure and regulatory reporting issues; environmental and safety matters; and pre-litigation resolution of contractual disputes.
- Work closely and collaboratively with procurement, operations, and other stakeholders, including within the Legal Department.
- Provide day-to-day legal advice in support of Upstream and Midstream operational objectives involving mining, chemical production, and logistics matters.
- Provide legal support on strategic business objectives and initiatives in the Upstream and Midstream operating segments.
- Provide legal support on regulatory matters, including safety, health and environmental matters and transportation regulatory matters.
- Assist in retaining and managing outside counsel as necessary.
- Coordinate with and contribute legal assistance to tax, risk/insurance, and credit groups and other cross-functional business units as needed.
- Comply with all Company standards, policies and procedures pertaining to appropriate conduct for employees, including the Statement of Core Values and Code of Business Conduct; the Respect in the Workplace Policy; Safety, Health and Environment Policies; and any other applicable standards, policies and procedures as implemented and/or revised by the Company or by legislation.
What you will bring:
- Membership and good standing in a U.S. bar association, with the requirement to become a member of the Colorado Bar Association.
- Minimum of 4-7 years of relevant experience, with a mix of law firm and in-house corporate law department experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, and drafting skills.
- Confidence, adaptivity, creativity, and flexibility and the ability to operate effectively and independently in a dynamic business environment.
- Ability to identify risks and propose alternative structures to mitigate risks.
- Ability to handle multiple and varied legal projects simultaneously.
- Skills to guide outside counsel.
- Ability to work in a critical team environment.
- Experience working closely with business executives and operations.
- Experience with real estate transactions would be a strong asset.
- Experience with construction and engineering contracts would be an asset.
- Experience with supply chain matters in the heavy industry space would be an asset.
- Experience with transportation and logistics matters would be an asset.
- Experience with environmental and safety compliance and permitting and incident response and privileged investigations would be an asset.
- Experience resolving pre-litigation contract disputes, particularly in the construction space, would be an asset.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this role, in Loveland, CO, is between $154,400 - $264,600. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.
