Reporting to the Director, Global Insurance & Risk Management, this role will work with multiple unique and distinct business functions. Acting as a ‘go-to’ for insurance expertise in the areas of risk assessment, risk-based decision-making, risk transfer strategies as well as the design and placement of insurance programs, insurance expertise and support services to the organization.


What you will do:

  • Run day-to-day, number two for insurance group, assist in managing the teams
  • Oversee and/or implement placement of all domestic, foreign, and global master insurance policies
  • Instill a collaborative working environment with business units to stay abreast of changes in operations that may impact risk exposures
  • Educate and support the business units with risk mitigation initiatives to reduce total cost of insurance
  • Assist in facilitating, coordinating, and participating in loss control surveys at operating sites, as required
  • Support and champion companywide projects and initiatives as required – e.g. M&A due diligence, project specific risk assessments as required for all business units (N, P, K and Retail).
  • Leverage insurer relationships and business unit relationships to achieve best-in-class results, e.g. underwriting response, policy terms and coverage, etc., in a challenging insurance market
  • Work with brokers and insurance providers to optimize the external insurance costs and benefits
  • Work with Legal and Procurement to continue to create and develop insurance and indemnification standard requirements and guidelines for contracts, including review and response to alternate language and/or exceptions proposed by vendors/service providers, and provide training for staff in Procurement and business units as needed
  • Coordinate with business units and corporate functions to compile and analyze information required for annual insurance renewals
  • Develop, implement, and update Insurance governance protocols and policies
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures for Insurance (e.g. process maps, RACIs, desktop procedures)
  • Oversee the continued development, evolution, and implementation of the Riskonnect Risk Management Information System (RMIS)
  • Claims management, as required
  • Collaborate with the Director, Global Insurance & Risk Management on implementation and management of the corporate insurance risk management program through exposure identification, risk control, insurance, and alternate risk financing, including offshore captive, for all areas of insurable risk within Nutrien
  • Execution of strategies to mitigate operational risk exposure, working closely with business units and various corporate departments
  • Maintain a strong understanding of business and strategic priorities, risk strategies and risk management needs to help develop innovative risk transfer solutions
  • Create and/or deliver reports and presentations for management, committees and other stakeholders on various insurance and risk management topics, programs, updates, performance-based metrics as required
  • Preparation of annual insurance and risk management premium budget and cost allocations, and assist in development of department budget
  • Proactively manage and maintain positive and effective working relationships with insurance carriers, brokers, third party claims administrators (TPAs) and other vendors

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce or Finance or equivalent and holds either a FCIP (Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional), CIP (Certified Insurance Professional) or CRM (Canadian Risk Manager) designation
  • 10+ years of experience in risk management and insurance in a corporate setting
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills, sound technical insurance and financial management skills
  • Possess an aptitude for insurance processes which is critical to the position
  • Demonstrated ability to working collaboratively with client leaders and teams
  • Problem-solver, analytical thinking, critical thinking and communication skills
  • Demonstrate legal acumen and awareness of legal framework and procedures appropriate to insurance
  • Previous claims experience is an asset
  • Capable of managing multiple competing priorities
  • Experience managing geographically diverse teams, understanding of international regulatory regimes, familiarity with captive insurance programs is an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of insurance programs and policy wordings and expert skills in the design, marketing and placement process for all areas of insurance coverage
  • Previous experience working with risk management / claims database system (ie: Riskonnect) an asset
  • Above average PC skills in a Windows environment, Excel spreadsheets, MS Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI, Oracle and SAP are an asset

 

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range $105,300 - $195,600 annually. This range is estimated for Manager, Insurance & Risk Management in Loveland, Colorado. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
