We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to help lead and influence the efficient, scalable, and strategic use of cloud technologies across our enterprise. This role partners closely with application and service owners to ensure cloud workloads are designed and operated with optimal performance, cost efficiency, and reliability in mind.

 

You will guide teams on cloud best practices, analyze and compare solution scenarios, and help drive architectural decisions that support both immediate business needs and long-term cloud strategy. This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep expertise in AWS and Azure, excellent communication skills, and a passion for continuous improvement.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Cloud Strategy, Architecture & Guidance
    • Lead the development of cloud technology frameworks and provide technical leadership for cloud initiatives.
    • Advise application and service owners on efficient, secure, and scalable use of cloud platforms.
    • Evaluate multiple architectural scenarios to guide teams toward the most effective and cost‑efficient solutions.
    • Advocate for cloud‑first principles and influence long‑term cloud adoption strategies.
    • Advocate for automation throughout the entire lifecycle.
  • Design & Engineering
    • Define and design services that span on‑premises and cloud environments.
    • Develop and maintain a library of reusable, documented cloud design patterns across IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and hybrid models.
    • Contribute to solution architecture for new and existing workloads, focusing on automation, scalability, resiliency, reliability, and cost optimization.
    • Conduct performance, scalability, and reliability testing for cloud and third‑party applications.
  • Collaboration & Development
    • Partner with software developers, system engineers, and database teams to translate business and technical requirements into cloud solutions.
    • Partner with Enterprise Application teams to review and design solutions based on enterprise software vendor and cloud operator best practices.
    • Contribute to DevOps and DevSecOps pipelines, development tasks, IaC modules, and cloud‑native engineering practices.
    • Provide technical governance, operational support, and expertise related to cloud deployments and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Optimization & Operational Excellence
    • Analyze and optimize existing cloud workloads to improve performance and reduce costs.
    • Use monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., Cloudability, AWS, Azure Monitor, ServiceNow, Splunk) to identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Drive continuous improvement in cloud operations, provisioning, automation, and service delivery.
  • Thought Leadership
    • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and cloud innovations.
    • Provide forward‑thinking perspectives on how cloud technology can support organizational strategy and modernization efforts.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud engineering, architecture, or operations (8–10+ years total IT experience preferred).
  • Extensive experience with AWS and Azure cloud platforms.
  • Strong background in technical architecture, system engineering, or application development.
  • Server administration experience (Windows and Linux).
  • Experience with CI/CD, automation, and DevOps tools (Terraform, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub, Ansible, AWS Systems Manager, etc.).
  • Knowledge of monitoring and analytics tools: Cloudability, Azure Monitor, ServiceNow.
  • Experience with cloud security frameworks and technologies (Azure AD, MFA, Prisma, Splunk).
  • Strong scripting/programming skills (Python, Bash, Java).
  • In-depth understanding of cloud architecture concepts: virtualization, orchestration, elasticity, multi-tenancy, high availability, disaster recovery.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum and DevSecOps practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and solve complex technical problems.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate / AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
  • Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals & Azure Solutions Architect
  • Strong analytical and scenario evaluation skills.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Innovative, creative problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Passion for cloud efficiency, optimization, and modern engineering practices.

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

The salary range for this role, in Loveland, CO, is between $105,300-180,500, and in Chicago, IL, is between $100,400-172,000. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

 

We provide an attractive benefits package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, vision coverage, and life insurance and well as disability coverage for positions working more than 30 hours per week. In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
