The Senior Director Agronomy North America will have oversight and oversight for all agronomy business in the US and Canada with full accountability/responsibility for Waypoint, Innovation Farms, Atmospheric Sciences and agronomic support team (ASM’s and RAM’s). The Senior Director Agronomy North America will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for the company by working with the NA Leadership Team and the local Management Team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies in the agronomic, innovation, soil science and atmospheric sciences space. Also, the Senior Director Agronomy North America will develop, direct and coordinate relationships with external stakeholders such as universities, agronomic technology providers and relevant others.
The position requires an understanding of the local and global markets, latest industry trends, and competitive market strategies. The individual will oversee the overall performance and profitability of the Nutrien agronomy business. This role will lead the agronomy business strategy around training, recruitment, technology and innovation.
What you will do:
- Manage the continued growth and evolution of a well-established and profitable business.
- Work closely with the existing management team of the business to ensure that both short-term and long-term objectives are delivered.
- Manage P&L including the delivery of top line and bottom line results; Driving the company to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement the annual business strategy and vision for the NAR market including commercial and go-to-market strategy as well as market segmentation, product positioning and marketing planning activities from an agronomic viewpoint.
- Review, on a continuous basis, the general business climate for the company to develop new business opportunities, expand business and maintain existing relationships with stakeholders. Develop new business opportunities through industry networking.
- Lead the development and implementation of digital agronomy and integrated agronomic sales strategy to achieve the planned company’s targets and market share.
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the marketplace, key dynamics and company policies.
- Set agronomic based delivery objectives and following in a structured way, assuring successful new product launches to the market and portfolio strategy development.
- Set agronomic based delivery objectives and following up in a structured way, and manage performance based on the assessment of individual, team and country performance vs. those objectives.
- Perform as an efficient and positive cross-functional team worker, working effectively with the Region and other leadership team members to share learning, develop strategies and programs, as well as to support business objectives.
- Act as a role model of the company’s values and behaviors through an effective leadership by demonstrating the imperatives of the performance fingerprint.

- Build and enhance commercial skills by driving continuous improvement of mindset/environment to create innovative tools for simplicity & effectiveness.
- Financial Execution (with the support of Finance):
- Drive the sales and profit growth of the business and ensuring the agronomic goals are achieved.
- Manage operational effectiveness by working closely with finance business partner to understand OPEX and EBITDA implications.
- Control the process of attaining higher company productivity by analyzing organizational structure and systems, identifying resources (staff, equipment, funds) required, and communicating with pertinent department managers on the supporting strategies and needs involving company strategies.
- Strategy:
- Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes for the agronomy function of NAR.
- Work effectively alongside other business units by being the Region EVP’s right hand.
- Understand the local and global markets, latest industry trends, and competitive market strategies. Monitor sales and market trends through publications and customer contact.
- Develop plans to ensure NAS stays market relevant and the employer of choice.
- Customer Focus:
- Develop good relationship & network with staff, customers & industry peers.
- Making sure that our agronomy business strategy aligns with the promise of Safety, Results, Integrity, inclusion.
What you will bring:
- BS in Agriculture with 5-10 years’ experience in Ag industry, some of which has been in management positions.
- MBA or master’s degree – strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of agronomic sales practices.
- Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information.
- Problem solving— identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information skillfully.
- Delegate work assignments, provide freedom within a framework, give authority to work independently, set expectations and monitor delegated activities.
- Inspire and motivate others to perform well and accept feedback from others.
- Ability to collaborate and develop strong relationships with all levels of employees within the organization.

Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this role, in Loveland, CO, is between $177,600 - $304,400. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.
