We are seeking a skilled and strategic Indirect Tax Senior Manager to support the Director of Indirect Tax in overseeing and optimizing indirect tax operations across our brick-and-mortar agriculture retail, manufacturing, and mining divisions. This role will play a key part in delivering accurate, compliant, and technology-enabled indirect tax solutions across the United States, Canada and Brazil with a focus on Sales & Use Tax and GST/HST/PST/QST.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving automation, enhancing tax reporting accuracy, and ensuring scalable compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
What you will do:
- Support to Director of Indirect Tax:
- Serve as the primary operational lead for indirect tax initiatives, reporting to and collaborating closely with the Director of Indirect Tax.
- Help define and execute the department's roadmap for tax automation, compliance excellence, and risk management.
- Provide leadership and insight to help align the indirect tax function with broader finance and business objectives.
- Technology-Driven Indirect Tax Operations:
- Manage the operation, enhancement, and integration of tax automation platforms (e.g., ONESOURCE) within ERP systems (SAP, Oracle), POS, e-commerce, and procurement platforms.
- Assist with the design and configuration of automated tax determination logic for U.S. Sales & Use Tax, Brazilian Indirect Taxes (ICMS, IPI, ISS, PIS/COFINS), and Canadian GST/HST/PST/QST, ensuring alignment with local regulatory frameworks.
- Ensure end-to-end system testing and issue resolution for tax engine rules and logic across jurisdictions.
- Drive adoption of tax technology and digital tools to improve accuracy, visibility, audit readiness, and reporting efficiency across all business systems.
- Compliance & Reporting (Brazil, U.S., and Canada):
- Ensure timely and accurate filing, remittance, and reconciliation for:
- U.S. Sales & Use Tax: Multistate compliance across all applicable jurisdictions, including local-level reporting, exemption certificate management, and use tax accruals.
- Brazilian taxes: ICMS, IPI, ISS, PIS/COFINS, DIFAL, and SPED reporting obligations.
- Canadian indirect taxes: GST/HST, PST/QST, fuel and environmental levies.
- Assist with electronic tax reporting and e-invoicing requirements in Brazil (e.g., NF-e, SPED Fiscal, SPED Contributions).
- Monitor global tax law changes and assess impacts to compliance strategies, systems, and business processes.
- Implement internal controls and documentation to ensure audit readiness and reduce compliance risk.
- Data Analytics & Process Optimization:
- Lead indirect tax data analysis using Power BI, Alteryx, SQL, and advanced Excel to improve insights, trend identification, and exception monitoring.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, analytics models, and automation workflows to track tax positions, refund claims, audit risks, and compliance health in real time.
- Perform root cause analysis on tax discrepancies and system configuration issues using transaction-level data from ERP and tax engine logs.
- Champion continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making, process mapping, and KPI tracking across tax operations.
- Promote standardization and best practices in indirect tax processes across business units, with the flexibility to adapt for local requirements.
- Agriculture Retail Support:
- Assist with indirect tax compliance across agriculture retail stores in North America Canada and Brazil, with attention to:
- Proper tax treatment of farm inputs, fertilizers, equipment, and exempt goods.
- Inventory movement and interstate/provincial transfers.
- In-store services such as custom application, equipment rentals, and deliveries.
- Proper collection and application of tax exemptions.
- Manufacturing & Mining Oversight:
- Manage indirect tax treatment for capital purchases, intercompany transfers, and production inputs.
- Administer fuel tax credits, royalties, and tax incentives in the mining and natural resources sectors.
- Ensure compliance with Brazilian sector-specific regimes and tax incentives (e.g., RECAP, REINTEGRA).
- Cross-Functional Advisory:
- Advise internal stakeholders on indirect tax impacts of:
- Capital projects, store/network expansion, and new product/service offerings.
- Procurement contracts, supply chain restructuring, and vendor onboarding.
- System implementations or upgrades.
- Collaborate with Legal, Procurement, IT, and Finance to embed tax compliance and efficiency into business decision-making.
- Represent the indirect tax function in internal and external audits, ERP projects, and tax transformation initiatives.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor tax analysts/specialists with a focus on technical development, process ownership, and data fluency.
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture aligned with organizational growth and operational excellence.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, or Master’s in Taxation preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in U.S. and Canadian indirect tax, with deep expertise in Sales & Use Tax compliance. Knowledge of Brazilian Indirect Taxes a plus.
- Experience in brick-and-mortar agriculture retail, and familiarity with manufacturing and mining sector tax considerations a plus.
- Hands-on experience with tax engines and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, hands-on leadership style.
- Understanding of agricultural tax exemptions and fuel tax credits preferred.
- Familiarity with audit defense, tax data automation, and process documentation preferred.
- Experience working in cross-functional, multi-jurisdictional environments preferred.
- Proficiency in data analytics tools and tax reporting automation preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this role, in Loveland, CO, is between $115,900 - $198,600 and in Chicago, IL, is between $110,400 - $189,300. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.
