This position is based in Loveland, CO, and reports to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation, Product Regulation & SHE.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Provide expert legal guidance to internal Nutrien stakeholders regarding litigation risk and strategic management of existing litigation. 
  • Manage dispute resolution and litigation across all areas of the business, including complex commercial, environmental, regulatory, product liability, class actions, and personal injury.
  • Identify sources of risk and devise and implement litigation risk mitigation measures.
  • Initiate and manage privileged investigations as necessary.
  • Choose and retain external counsel as necessary and manage same.   
  • Provide legal guidance on the integration of acquired businesses with respect to potential claims, disputes and litigation risk.  
  • Comply with all Company standards, policies and procedures pertaining to appropriate conduct for employees, including the Statement of Core Values and Code of Business Conduct; the Respect in the Workplace Policy; Safety, Health and Environment Policies; and any other applicable standards, policies and procedures as implemented and/or revised by the Company or by legislation.

 

What you will bring:

 

  • The individual must be a licensed Attorney in the US or Canada.
  • At least 7-10 years litigation practice in a law firm setting.  Additional experience in a business environment as inhouse counsel managing risk, disputes and/or litigation preferred but not required. 
  • Highly developed skills and significant experience with a broad range of disputes and litigation, including complex commercial disputes, preferably within the agricultural industry.
  • Experience working directly with business executives and operations.
  • Strategic and practical.
  • Assertive, adaptable, creative and flexible.
  • Ability to analyze and extrapolate information and have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a critical team environment.
  • Ability to identify risks and propose alternative structures to mitigate.
  • Ability to handle multiple and varied legal projects simultaneously.
  • Skills to manage external counsel.
  • Excellent decision-making skills, must be able to lead problem solving, perform independently yet still work in a team environment, and take initiative.
  • Skills and experience with initiation and conduct of investigations. 
  • Excellent analytical research and writing skills as demonstrated by past draft examples.

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

 

The salary range for this role, Loveland, CO, is between $177,600 - $304,400. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
