In Trinidad & Tobago, we operate one of the world's largest nitrogen complexes with 4 ammonia plants and 1 urea plant on 165 acres of Trinidad's sheltered west coast.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Government & Industry Affairs, the Government & Industry Affairs Manager will be self-motivated and able to work autonomously to build the Company’s network, influence and impact with public policy decision makers in priority Trinidad & Tobago jurisdictions (federal and state). This role will work closely with and support the Managing Director, Trinidad & Tobago along with the local leadership team. This individual is expected to anticipate, triage and manage policy issues that can impact or support Nutrien’s business objectives.
What you will do:
- Support, develop and execute on a multifaceted Government and Industry Affairs Strategy within Trinidad & Tobago, under leadership of the Senior Director, Global Government & Industry Affairs (Washington, DC) and in coordination with the Managing Director (Trinidad & Tobago) and site leadership team.
- Sit on site leadership team, working closely with all functions to ensure external strategy is in line with both global Government and Industry Affairs goals and site needs.
- Build and strengthen relationships and communications with key stakeholders, including government officials, regulators, government agencies, bringing in Nutrien’s senior leadership as appropriate.
- Create and execute on an advocacy plan, including a priority list and level of engagement needed to satisfy specific business outcomes.
- Working with community relations, communications, and other operating segments, develop and coordinate, and execute a cohesive external affairs strategy for the country.
- Work closely with all corporate functions and operating segments to meet government relations requirements, including working on media related issues partnering with Branding, Culture & Communications team, stakeholder relations, community investment, and other internal stakeholders.
- Work with industry partners, third-party associations, and industry coalitions on companies’ goals and objectives.
What you will bring:
- 10+ years of experience developing and leading government and stakeholder engagement strategies across the state and energy sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience in building and maintaining relationships with elected officials, regulators, and partners.
- Understanding of the political environment and process and how it impacts the energy, agriculture, and petrochemical industry, locally and globally.
- Experience working on media/speech writing/press releases or the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to set priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
