Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Assistant Manager, Production is responsible for contracting growers, production and delivery of quality hybrid seed to meet forecasted demand.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Develop crop plan for sorghum hybrid production
  • Prospect, select, and oversee contracted grower relationship
  • Communicate grower’s responsibilities for growing contracted crop and provide guidance on best cultural practices
  • Execute production contracts with grower’s
  • Provide detailed planting instructions to grower’s and deliver parent seed for plantings
  • Oversee plantings to ensure correct planting techniques and equipment setup
  • Monitor field emergence and recommend split adjustments as necessary
  • Coordinate roguing crew to maintain genetic purity of production fields.
  • Schedule roguing as needed during the growing season
  • Monitor production fields and provide recommendations throughout growing season and harvest around insects, disease, plant health, irrigation needs, and desiccation application
  • Submit growing season inspection applications to Texas Dept of Ag
  • Oversee isolation crews to protect crops from outside contamination
  • Inspect harvest equipment to ensure cleanliness and lack of contamination
  • Coordinate harvest activities and delivery of seed with Ralls, TX facility
  • Conduct and record genetic purity grow-out readings during the winter, ensuring production meets quality standards.
  • Lead and perform work the Nutrien Way – engaging in corporate, policies, programs and practices, including SH&E regulations and standards, to bring our Culture of Care to life
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you will bring:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Agriculture or related field; experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • Minimum 5-year’s experience in similar role preferred
  • Chemical applicator license required
  • Demonstrated leadership ability that can perform tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to build relationships with employees, customers and contractors
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to work and interact effectively within a team-based environment
  • Strong computer competence including all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Travel will be required within growing regions in North Plain Panhandle and South Plains of Texas
