Reporting to General Manager, the Maintenance & Engineering Superintendent will be responsible for the development of high-performance teams, stewarding to asset management best practices and KPI’s as well as ensuring compliance with all codes and regulations. You will provide leadership to the Maintenance & Engineering team through clear understanding of key performance areas, setting aligned goals/objectives, skills training, and deliberate career planning. The successful candidate for this role will possess strong communication, supervisory, and teamwork skills, as well as leadership abilities, advanced problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

 

This position is located at our Joffre, Alberta site and is not eligible for remote work.

 

What you will do:

  • Lead and develop the maintenance and engineering team on the JNO site. Ensure that role descriptions and expectations are in place and understood by each of the employees allowing them to deliver and develop to their fullest potential. 
  • Lead and oversee all maintenance team activities in alignment with Major/Routine Maintenance (MRM) and applicable Process Safety Management (PSM) standards (Asset Care, Condition Monitoring, End of Life, Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System, etc.) 
  • Lead and oversee all Engineering team activities in alignment with Nutrien/Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) requirements and all Process Safety Management (PSM) standards. 
  • Act as the Responsible Member as defined by APEGA and adhere to the requirements in the Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).  Additionally, maintain professional status as a mechanical engineer to oversee all mechanical engineering requirements at the JNO site. 
  • Support the project group in coordination, development, planning and execution of capital and non-routine projects. 
  • Responsible for developing and managing the maintenance budget including provisions for outages, turnarounds, and non-routine items as well as day to day costs. 
  • Stewart to the applicable KPI’s aligned to Maintenance and Engineering that support the objective of safe, reliable, and efficient operations of the JNO site. 
  • As part of the Joffre Leadership Team (JLT) participate in daily/weekly/monthly engagements and facilitate applicable meetings to ensure that the workforce is aligned and working towards the site objectives. 
  • Maintain key workflow tasks related to safety programs, management of change, delegation of authority, financial approvals, etc. 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering and
  • Registered Professional Engineer with APEGA, or eligible for registration
  • 8+ year’s plant experience in an industrial maintenance environment with direct exposure to the various maintenance disciplines
  • Experience coordinating and analyzing financial budgets and maintenance information
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management Practices 
  • Knowledge of Maintenance, Reliability and Turnaround Best Practices 
  • Experience with industry codes such as ASME, ANSI, CSA, and Alberta Pressure Equipment regulations
  • Experience working with vendors and contractors both union and non-union
