An exciting co-op opportunity awaits a motivated student at our Redwater Fertilizer site beginning January 2026 for an approximate 8-month term. This is a temporary, full-time, hourly-paid position and is open to current students who will be returning to their studies once this work term is complete.
The Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student provides technical and administrative support to the Redwater Nitrogen Operations (RNO) Maintenance & Reliability Engineering team. The Mechanical Engineering Co-op student will work directly under the guidance and mentorship of Reliability Engineer/Asset Care Supervisor, to support the mechanical improvements and maintenance and reliability initiatives at RNO. The Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student will work closely with all three engineering groups within the M&R Org (Maintenance Engineering, Reliability Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Specialists). Successful candidates should consistently demonstrate a safe working attitude and support Nutrien’s Commitment to Zero initiative. They must have effective time management, communication, and analytical skills to interact across all levels and adapt to changing priorities. Knowledge of pressure vessels, piping codes, and NDT inspection techniques is an asset. Strong organization and report writing skills, along with the ability to work independently or as part of a team, are essential.
What you will do:
- Lead design changes for mechanical plant improvements. This will include stationary (piping, vessels, heat exchangers) and rotating equipment (pumps, rotary drums, conveyance, turbomachinery)
- Provide mechanical support for capital and non-routine project development
- Troubleshooting mechanical problems within the production units
- Assist in Root Cause Failure Analyses and lead follow-up work
- Assist in site wide reliability assessments and initiatives
What you will bring:
- Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering co-op program at a post-secondary institution
- Excellent computer skills including:
- Competence in standard Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word)
- Experience with calculations software (e.g. Matlab, CodeCalc) is an asset
- Experience with drafting/sketching software is an asset
- Experience with PowerBI is an asset
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
