Discover more about Nitrogen at Nutrien! An exciting co-op opportunity awaits a motivated student at our Redwater Fertilizer Operations site beginning January 2025 for an 8-month term. This is a temporary, full-time position open to current students who will be returning to their studies once this work term is complete. This position is not available for remote work.

 

What you will do:

  • Lead design changes for mechanical plant improvements. This will include stationary (piping, vessels, heat exchangers) and rotating equipment

  • Provide mechanical support for capital and non-routine project development

  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems within the production units

  • Assist in Root Cause Failure Analyses and lead follow-up work

  • Assist senior specialists and maintenance engineers in detailed technical evaluations such as fitness for service, root cause failure analysis (time and availability permitting), and lead follow-up work

 

What you will bring:

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering co-op program at a post-secondary institution

  • Demonstrates a safe working attitude and supports our Commitment to Zero initiative

  • Knowledge of pressure vessels, piping codes, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, and NDT inspection techniques is an asset

  • Demonstrated time management skills to meet deadlines as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills which are essential for interacting with diverse team members at all levels of the organization

  • Well-developed problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills

  • Effective writing skills including report writing and audit file documentation

  • Able to work as an effective and contributing member of the team or independently as the need arises

  • Excellent computer skills including:

    • Competence in standard Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)

    • Experience with calculations software (e.g. Matlab, CodeCalc) is an asset

    • Experience with drafting/sketching software is an asset
