What You'll Do:

 

Reporting to the Sr Manager, Operations, the Chief Steam Engineer is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all steam generation systems within the facility. This role ensures boilers and associated equipment meet regulatory requirements, supports production needs, and supervises steam plant personnel. The Chief Steam Engineer will act as the technical authority for steam operations and maintenance, providing leadership in the Utilities area, and will also act as a link to ABSA as it relates to the site Power Engineers and their competencies and certifications.

 

  • Lead the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of steam boilers, turbines, and auxiliary equipment in the Utilities and Water Treatment areas.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial boiler and pressure vessel regulations and act as a liaison to ABSA for tracking and ensuring proper certifications for Power Engineers at Redwater
  • Collaborate with production teams to optimize steam supply and energy efficiency
  • Supervise and train steam plant operators, assigning daily tasks and monitoring performance
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and coordinate repairs with maintenance teams and support the development and implementation of preventive maintenance schedules and other continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and regulatory documentation.
  • Manage the site cooling water systems and work with water treatment provider to maintain Key Performance Indicators for Steam and Cooling Water systems
  • Manage the site Air, Fire Water and effluent, ground and sewer water systems to ensure regulatory/code requirements
  • Manage training material and SOP’s for the Utilities Plant areas including the delivery of training material

What You'll Bring:

 

  • Valid First Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency, or a candidate with Second Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency currently working on a First Class Power Engineer certificate will be considered
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in industrial steam generation operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/shift engineer role
  • Strong understanding of pressure vessel codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations
  • Knowledgeable in Redwater Site Operations
  • Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment and respond to operational emergencies
